This is pretty terrible

(Sorry, I'm not sure how to embed. If someone knows, please feel free to do so.)
But at the same time very hard to take seriously.
It's like Hitler giving a speech with a clown wig on.
However, the silliness does nothing to detract from the severity of their fervor.
Does anyone know what the general air towards homosexuality in Uganda (and the rest of Africa) is, and why it is?

I honestly thought that the man was kidding because I saw some people in the audience laughing. But, this was not a joke this can become a serious case of statewide homophobia. It looks like a bigoted air has entered Uganda. If we have comrades there they should mobilize against this quickly before it spreads.

The thing is, I don't think this is new.

Yeah, it's not. It's been a problem in Uganda for a while, culminating in the 2009 Anti-Homosexuality Bill.
A few of the problems are:
1. The militancy of the Ugandan Anglican Church and many Christian Missions against homosexuals. While the Episcopal Church in the U.S has been very progressive, that is not the state of most Anglican churches.
2. The superstition/stigma associated with Homosexuality.

do western church support violent crimes against homosexuals? or outright illegality? i mean is it their wet dream?
i personally despise the influence of the christian faith in the third world. nothing but violence, submission to colonial masters, and now something i haven't thought of, homophobia.

That's probably because a lot of people there realize how absurd that guy was being.

Actually, the western provinces especially the U.S and Canada have been extremely liberal and progressive in this regard. The Anglican Church in the U.S, the Episcopal Church, allows for openly homosexual individuals to become bishops, and even presiding Bishops.
The Anglican Communion in Africa has actually established mission churches in the United States to combat female, and gay ordinations.

Actually; not to minimize the pre-existing homophobia in Uganda, but the recent controversial anti-gay law is tied to U.S. evangelical Christians.
According to the Advocate.com;
An antigay conservative group with high-powered U.S. political allies has used its influence to support a proposed Ugandan law that would impose the death penalty on "repeat offenders" engaging in gay sex.
David Bahati, a Ugandan lawmaker and member of the fundamentalist group The Family, sponsored the antigay legislation and has received millions of dollars in funding through the organization’s African outreach programs. The Family has also cultivated a "deep relationship" with Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni (pictured, right), Jeff Sharlet, author of The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power, said in a Tuesday interview on (http://www.npr.org/templates/transcript/transcript.php?storyId=120746516)Fresh Air with Terry Gross (http://www.npr.org/templates/transcript/transcript.php?storyId=120746516) on National Public Radio.

I once saw a Youtube video that featured an American Christian minister (not sure what church, sorry) who went to Uganda and actually supplied them with the homosexual porn to show in their church, similar to how this man did towards the end of that video you posted. I'm not sure how influential this kind of thing is on Ugandan homophobia in general, but it apparently does happen/has happened.
Let me see if I can find that video.

Here it is. It's the Evangelical Scott Lively who did it.

On second thought, I may have seen this vid the first time here at RevLeft, so I apologize if this is a repost.

I was going to mention that, but counterblast beat me to it. :)
In essence, some has said that this could lead to a human rights issue. Some have hinted to cut international aid to Uganda as a response.
