View Full Version : Who else likes Skram(Screamo/Emo)?

I hate the term "skram" but its useful in separating real Screamo and Emo music from the shit the media(Warped Tour, Myspace, Malls, Teens) pass off today.
Bands such as:
Orchid, Comadre, Circle Takes The Square, Saetia, City of Caterpillar, Portrait, Cap'n Jazz, Funeral Diner, Neil Perry, Raein, American Football,
and so forth.
Orchid - Tigers
I kiss the girls that speak Marcuse.
I kiss the boys that speak Foucault.
I love the kids that know Adorno
and snub their nose at kids who don't.
I make love in theory and touch myself in practice.
What's good for the posture is good for the pose.
Who let the Tigers out to kill all the lovers?

lolz skramz. This stuff was my life from 2005 to 2009. I still listen to a handful of bands, just not 24/7 like I use to. There are plenty of good bands who have leftist political views too (1905, Yaphet Kotto, Moss Icon, Phoenix Bodies, Four Hundred Years, Cease Upon the Capitol, etc.)
As of the past few months, I've been listening to:
- Gospel
- Off Minor
- Cease Upon the Capitol
- Dolcim
- Combatwoundedveteran
- Reversal of Man
- A Light in the Attic
- La Quiete

I like a lot of the skramz revival stuff, like touche amore and la dispute, and crime in stereo is definitely skramz influenced.

Touche amore talks a lot about homosexual issues, plus they have this shirt.

Rites of Spring are one of those "early" emo bands. Not screamo or what's considered emo today, but a precursor to both. Go back to the roots!!

By "comrade", I'm guessing you mean Comadre. Good band.
I listen to some of this stuff, not so much now but I'll bust out an Orchid or Reversal of Man record when I'm in the mood. This thread made me want to listen to Rites of Spring, which is good. I haven't listened to them in a while.
Also, "skram" is the worst term ever.

I'm fairly certain the bands Killie and Daitro are leftist. But Saetia and CTTS are definitely the pinnacle of screamo.

How is that a "tough guy" statement? This isn't the first time you've said this to me. I'm not sure you understand what the term means.

Yaphet Kotto
Welcome The Plague Year
Indian Summer

One Eyed God Prophecy
emo/screamo has definitely helped to make me look at music in a different light. So many great bands with a leftist message.:thumbup1:
Check out The Brides Of Changes
I'd post a link but I don't have enough posts// just google their myspace.
Anti-fascists, they refuse to play spaces that don't state they are clearly against fascism. Really good stuff..

Shit. I wish Cap'n Jazz would come to Louisiana.
On another note, I wouldn't call them skramz. If anything, they're somewhere betwixt math rock and indie-emo.
Skramz bands I like: Envy, Circle Takes The Square, Orchid, Wow Owls!, City of Caterpillar, Funeral Diner, Gantz, Life At These Speeds, Yaphet Kotto, Hot Cross, Heroin, Antioch Arrow, Mohinder, Swing Kids, Portraits of Past, Honeywell, Saetia, pg.99, Angel Hair, Amanda Woodward, The Mock Heroic, and about twenty-something others.

http://www.myspace.com/shaunmcglinn yes I know someone mentioned at being repulsed by Myspace's music but hey check this guy out. I quite liked his electronic dabbling within screamo unless...it's not screamo, I can't really differentiate between the multiple genres (please forgive me).

Cap'n Jazz and Saetia are good fun. I find most skram to be kind of boring, but that's true with most of most genres.

I'll revive this, I fucking love Screamo :) Favorites are pg.99, Gospel, Circle Takes The Square, 1905, The Death Of Anna Karina, Kurhaus, United Nations, Comadre, Touche Amore, La Dispute and Transistor Transistor (though the last two aren't strictly Screamo). But yeah, it's pretty much my favorite genre. Some of the bands are so catchy (Comadre and The Death Of Anna Karina especially), while still being aggressive and energetic as hell, it's really awesome ;D

Yes x 10000000000000
Their new song is weird though. Great instrumentally, but I don't like the new vocal style he did.
If you like The Death of Anna Karina (their New Liberalistic Pleasures album specifically), then try Bright Calm Blue's A Direct Approach to Casual Conversation album.

Wow, I knew they temporarily reformed to play some benefit show, but I didn't know they were gonna record new material. Yeah, the vocal style is strange as fuck. Well, it's cool if it's like a one-song thing, but if the whole album is gonna be that way I don't know... I loved his old style ^^

Never heard of that band, but sounds promising from what I listened to on youtube. Will definitely look into it, thanks! And yeah, New Liberalistic Pleasures is definitely my favorite record of their's. I don't like their self-titled much.

Guys, seriously. I love this band. Interviews with David Frost is a great album. Emergency Numbers is so eerie you can't help but like it. Check them out if you have not yet. Political screamo.

I wish I had friends like that during Highschool. The early years especially.
I would have wasted so much less money and time on Slipknot, SoaD, Linkin Park and Rammstein.:crying:
But what did they listen to? Yeeah. Slipknot, Chimaira, All That Remains, In Flames, Children Of Bodom, Rammstein, SoaD, Linkin Park ... what do they listen to now? Alesana and Brokencyde. *head against wall*

^ one of their best songs.
Song of Zarathustra rules. I love their cover of Tame. I wish I was a bit older, I could of saw them all the time (grew up near where they were, dammit!) Both of their albums are different from each other, but I like both equally.
