Ok, so I complain about my job a lot. There are the big issues of course (my workplace in non-unionized and is unofficially but effectively racially segregated) but then there is also the minor day to day shit that gets me down.

I wanted to start a thread for this minor crap - so if you have some petty work annoyances, please post the anecdotes here!

Here's mine for today. I have to wear a uniform of a white shirt, tie, and black pants so I have to look like a mormon when I'm commuting to work. I should stop there, because that's pretty annoying, but that's just the set up.

So anyway, I had to go outside to fix something and while I was out there some regular (a few times a week) customers came into the parking lot. I smiled and said hello and was ignored. When I returned to the front door, they were standing at the door and were too self-absorbed to hold the door for me when they entered even though I was standing right behind them; so the big metal door closed right in my face. Then the topper is that I opened the door and went inside and the same guests were standing at the front desk ringing the bell for service.

I guess I'll have to go home and re-read "The Invisible Man" again :(.

Self-absorbed Berkeley Yuppies. The guy who was ringing the bell even has one of those yuppie American drawls that sounds like a cross between Droopy-Dog and the Millionarie from Gilligan's Island.

The restaurant I work at is the southern-most location of the franchise it belongs to.

Well, our District Manager found it really cute, you know, because we're Southern, to make our district's logo a fucking Confederate flag. I asked a manager about it and they said "Well it makes sense since he treats us all like slaves."

And he does. I was working one night and he showed up the second we closed for an audit. Yeah, we were there three and a half hours later redoing shit.

Why? Because long term unemployment is a walk in the park? Like a fucking extended holiday or something? Fucking christ alive.

Why? Because long term unemployment is a walk in the park? Like a fucking extended holiday or something? Fucking christ alive. No, of course not, but people who are working are not the cause of other people not working - they don't control that. Conversely when people say "just be happy you have a job" they are basically saying - be exploited and be happy about it, it's better to be a surf than a slave or dead. In the big picture, this kind of attitude is used to promote the idea that unions are greedy if workers want higher pay - or unions resisting cutbacks during the recession are "greedy".

to make our district's logo a fucking Confederate flagFar from petty comrade - that's disgusting.

today i just got fucked over regarding my holiday pay. Also disgusting.

It's a line usually rattled off by conservatives who don't believe in the right to strike. They'll imply that workers who strike are lazily and should doff their cap to the lovely boss who employed them when there are a sea of unemployed people he could have picked from.

What are you going on about?

Ah right.

Well I was under the impression that you'd heard that line (or similar) from people who were themselves unemployed and therefore ththought you were having a go at us. Since you and gravedigger have explained what you actually meant I'm sorry about what I said.

Unemployment, however, is still shit.

My store just had our "loss prevention audit" where there is a list of factors they check to make sure we're doing everything right to prevent external theft/internal theft/keep proper records. My store failed, which means all of the managers (including me) get put on final written warnings. So I get in after my store manager tells me this on the phone and she starts to go over the audit with me and she says "you're name is all over this". So after she goes through it with me, I look at it, my name was listed three times, her's was listed twice (and there were 5 things which were her fault, just didn't have her name on it) and the other manager had 4 things listed.

What the fuck? I pointed it out to her, that I infact was responsible for the least ammount of stuff on there, then she told me "its not just about you, its about the team". Well then why the fuck did you say my name was "all over it"...

I want to quit because of her, but its such a good job, and she's allready on the verge of being fired.

Last week i managed to break 4 brushcutters with 2 of them the starter cable you have to pull to get the thing started broke off causing the wire to go into the machine meaning that brushcutter had to be taken to the workshop.
And with the other 2 dirty fuel managed to clog up the entire fuel system.

Its just minor repairs but still with 4 of them in a week the boss was suspicious of sabotage on my part.

Maybe he should just buy some new stuff instead of using old crap thats over 15 years old.
Though those with the dirty fuel are new stihls but i guess because they are new they are also more sensitive to dirty fuel.

My boss in my 2nd job has serious family problems. So the boss asked me to come in on my day off b/c the boss had serious family issues and needed someone to cover for them. The boss sent out a generic email to all the staff saying "please I have family problems lol cover for me." Then they started calling all the staff members individually. Obviously everyone else had a reason not to cover for the boss. Then the phone call came to me. I said I was going to go see a family member already that day and couldn't cover. I don't have any plans to that effect yet set up, I felt guilty at first, but then I was like, whatever. It's unreasonable to expect me to cover for the boss when they are an adult and are invovled in some unspecified "family situation."

Aye it was a name change. I guess I just forgot about it and saw "Gravedigger's" avatar.

Anyway, it's not really a gripe about conditions or anything but I was cleaning a toilet yesterday and it had cacked on shite that would not fuck off despite vigorous scrubbing. It's a really petty gripe but goddamn.

People take more than one paper when they open the box. I eat the papers they steal, cause I get charged for the paper regardless of whether it sold (and thus I get the rest of the money from the paper[ paper sells for like 75 cents, and we get charged like 43 cents,so every stolen paper means I lose 40+ cents out of my pocket]) or it is stolen.

I don't buy the supplies there. Still it doesn't matter too much, I get paid by the hour so it's probably better I take ages to clean things
