So, anyone into it? i downloaded Shadow of Chernobyl 2 years ago and i was blown away by the intensity of some of the stuff in the game. the second game was alright but i hear the third one, Call of Pripyat is going to go back to more of the Shadow of Chernobyl feel.
the dialog is pretty crap but thats a tiny part of the game :D

The first one is probably the best game ever.

I have all 3 games and they are awesome but i like the first the best.
They really made something amazing but its such a shame that you can see that they only managed to put in a fraction of what they wanted to do.

I think Call of Pripyat's the best of the series, even though the story isn't the best, just because the zone is literally a scale model of fucking Chernobyl.
STALKER is the best game series ever.

It's pretty large anyway, but the real improvement is obviously that it is much freer than the rather linear predecessors.

Sort of. There's only like 3 zones but they are massive in comparison to Shadows of Chernobyl, I think.

Shame the increased size really points out the technical limits of the engine where you can see the grass and shrubs popping into existence at X distance.
I hope they now start on an official stalker 2 with a new engine that will allow for better environments (and hopefully more awesome anomaly's)
I still hope for vehicles especially when a gravity anomaly crushing them like a can.
And of course hopefully with a new engine it would be easier to add assets like new weapons and maybe even new zone areas.

theres actually a very vibrant modding community for this game. the even add vehicles and guns like mosin nagants, AK-47s, and revolvers.
theres also a huge texturing community to change the looks of some things. like, for instance, in Clear Sky, i got tired of the ugly green on the AK74, so i got a mod that made it a full stock wood furniture.
good shit.
i really wish i had money to make my PC more compatible with this game. it seems that water makes me lag now, they must have done something new with it.

Yes but those vehicles where found burried in the game code and those weapons took forever to be put in the game and still its extremely difficult to get the animations right.
They managed to put those in by working around the limitations the game puts on them not because of an engine that was made to be mod friendly.
Besides those vehicles are useless in SSOC adding them with mods is pointless because the devs obviously abandoned them for a reason there are youtube video's of people being launched into the sky when using them.

yeah apparently if you drive into an anomaly you kinda get fucked up.
i found them to be kinda useless only because the zone is rather small. its either a long ass walk or a 20 second drive.
as for the weapons it seems the animations were pretty good for the mosin nagant which had to be made completely new.

I have a very decent rig and Clear Sky is still nearly unplayable for me. It's just optimized horribly.

your computer or the game? clear Sky was the buggiest of the games apparently so it might be that. i think there were a few texture mods that made it run better.

Clear Sky was poorly optimized, I mean.
I had an Nvidia 8800 GT, Quad core processor (2.8 ghz or so which I guess is sort of weak), and lots of RAM, but the game stuttered like mad. Now I've got a 9800 GTX and it's still pretty weak.

I have an old 9600 and a dual 2.6, Clear Sky actually runs well for me, only occasional frame rate drops. ;o

I have a 2.4 quad core (Q6600) but with a good videocard HD5870 it runs like a charm so i doubt its your processor.
