Idiot 'enemies of the future' - who says? Scumbags? Really?
We have to look at this rationally and politically. Yes, the Apprentice is a rubbish show. Yes, the ethics that Alan Sugar epouses are vile. But can you really blame this on the 'scum' young people that are in the show? Of course you can't.
Should we really be demanding that all young people have an excellent grasping of Marxist or revolutioary politics, or else they are scum? The fact is that they have grown up in an environment that preaches that success is how mich money you make and how many commodities you can exploit; grown up in a system that teaches you to not ask questions and accept. The young people that obviously believe this and feature in the show are not to blame, people like Sugar are.
However 'trendy' it must be to slate this new bunch of young people, its actually ridiculous and shows extreme political naivite on the part of those who do it.

These kids are about 16 are they not? Well, I was obviously a teenage Trotskyist (actually, a member of the Anarcho-Trot Conspiracy) but not everyone that age will be as uber-cool as I was.
Absolutely I agree with Sam that these kids are responding to the society around them. Money and making it are held up in our society to be good things. Why wouldn't some young people want a part of that? Schools often run 'young entrepreneur' programmes where kids studying business are given a budget and told to make more. There was a report about a similar scheme a few weeks ago where one kid turned £50 or whatever into £500 in a few hours - by printing Mothers' Day cards (or something) and hawking them at his local shopping centre. People (even young people) do that kinda shit.
Sorry, keep forgetting this is Chit-Chat not Theory.
Yerr, I say flog the skin off their backs and turn it into handbags, that'll teach 'em not to be so smug. Bloody youngsters.

These kids are pretty much my age, and they are getting haps over meeting fucking Richard Branson.

Nah dont blame Suger, he also grew up in that environment........... :|
I get your point abou tthe Young Enterpise shit, but this isnt kids doing it for writing on their personal statement at school, they are going on tv to become an entrepenuer - it seems very likley they will keep at the "entrepenuerism"

Sugar is old enough to know better. He's been around, he looks like Camilla Parker Bowles just melted, so he must be about 863. He's a reactionary scumbag and not fit for making into handbags. But those kids are just kids. Dorky kids that are making themselves look like tits but who think they're cool. You never been embarrassed about anything you've done? Give them a break.

Sugar is the owner of means of production, and has assisted the government. You can't make that comparison.
Those are folk your age? Well congrats for being 'better' than them by being politically conscious. It means nothing. In fact, the argument you put by saying this boils down to one which resents the idea of building up class consciousness - if they don't know better, fuck them, right?

I don't think it settles anything at all. If anything it smells of a complete cop-out.

The thing is, these kids can learn to be better by realising that capitalism 'sux' and the future is the world revolution. Any teenage trot now can only go downhill. You better watch it bailey, any backsliding and the commissars will be round at your door telling you to pick up your socks and stand up straight.
