So today I got a letter that explained in great detail the fruitless opportunities that await me if I apply for a job with Vector Marketing Corporation.

Needless to say, with the 15.50 base appt pay and the make your own hours, I hopped in the car and drove to their headquarters for a 4 hour "group" interview". In which, my "boss" described in great detail that we would be traveling knife salesmen, earning commission as well as base high pay. What were the catches?

-$137 fee for purchasing the knives to show to people in demonstrations
-Creating a massive list of people and bracketing them into income to devise the most profitable route
-Not having gas paid for
-Unpaid weekly meetings
-Unpaid paperwork

And all the people there were new hirees, no one was seasoned....

Google: Vector Marketing Scam

Yeah Vector is basically a scam, nothing more. I've seen them recruiting at both college campuses I've attended, with flyers and posters literally EVERYWHERE. When I was attending community college, they would occasionally even have actual recruiters there. Especially on the college nights where there would be representatives from local universities present.

I've known a couple folks who went to the interview and quickly realized the whole thing is a bunch of bullshit. Don't waste your time with them folks.

Unfortunately, if a job description sounds too good to be true (making your own hours, a decent base pay) and there are no qualifications involved, it normally is. This is a very good example of how inherently fucked up capitalism is.
There are shitloads of "companies" that work like this and it's disgusting.

I went to one of those interviews too a couple years ago, mainly because they declined to tell me anything about the company over the phone. Needless to say, I didn't take the job. I've actually known a couple people that made decent money through them though, surprisingly enough.
