An interesting article from the New York Review of Books. It seems that Israel is getting more and more isolated--especially from traditional Liberal American Jews who question Israel's hard line attitude. It also is getting rigidly dogmatic and racist against Palestinians in its internal politics. For the most part the view of Israeli exceptionalism is waning in the US except with the Ultra Orthodox Jews.

As time goes on Jewish ideas of victimhood is decreasing in the US but a very hard and hateful attitude is taking over Israel itself.

Anyway read the article.

Thats true, its interesting to point out that many of the early zionists were leftists, however as time went on, most of the jewish left abandoned the idea and it was essnecially taken over by the radical right wing, I think more support for isreal nowerdays comes from the evangelical right rather than the jewish community.

There is still some degree of support for Israel in the Jewish-American community, even among those who skew to the left. But I think the support for Zionism among the Christian Right is quite interesting. They justify it through Scripture, but it seems to function more as a means of removing their competition in the American ruling class. Just a thought.

Well there is still a certain base for Israeli support, but a lot of people are just tired of the wars and don't want to get involved in the affairs of other nations. Also Israel behaved atrociously in Lebanon (as it generally has) and that seemed to draw away support.
