I figured this belonged in learning. Does anyone know of any good books about the various IRA's and INLA? Bonus points if you know a good one that talks a good deal about both. ;)

I'm also interested in books about Shining Path (Peru) and the NPA-NDF (Philippines) and the Palestinian leftist rebels (PFLP and so forth).

Although it may not be a recent book, in which this book was published just a few years before the Soviet Union's collapse, but it's still a pretty good book to read: Inside the Philippine Revolution (http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Philippine-Revolution-Peoples-Struggle/dp/1850431140)

As a supporter in the Sendero Luminoso, in both their once armed struggle & now peace struggle (let's not confuse the original Sendero's with the revisionist faction (http://redantliberationarmy.wordpress.com/2010/05/20/artemio-brands-joseph-raul-as-mercenaries-narcocamaradas/) that took rise after Abimael Guzman's capture), I can't say that I've seen any book get published that puts the PCP in a positive light, except for one book which was written by Abimael Guzman, himself, while in prison & it got published: De puņo y letra (http://www.eldiariointernacional.com/spip.php?article2605)

Again, supporter in the PFLP, but I can't say that I've seen any book that brings the PFLP within a positive light yet, but I do recommend you reading as much as you can on their english site, which has enough to last you for a good while: http://www.pflp.ps/english/

If you're interested in the armed struggle in India by the Naxalites (Indian Maoists), then I'd highly recommend you to read this book: Jangalnama: Travels in a Maoist Guerilla Zone (http://www.penguinbooksindia.com/category/Non_Fiction/Jangalnama_9780143414452.aspx)

Same thing goes for the armed struggle in Nepal. This book I'd highly recommend as well: Dispatches from the People's War in Nepal (http://www.amazon.com/Dispatches-Peoples-War-Nepal-Onesto/dp/0745323405)

And of course, one couldn't have this great collection of personal experienced works of revolutionary guerrilla movements without reading one about FARC & their revolutionary armed struggle against the Colombian State: Revolutionary Social Change in Colombia (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/074532875X/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-6&pf_rd_r=1FGAY7Z9E574WER1ABH2&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938731&pf_rd_i=507846)

So does this Lost Revolution book also talk a good deal about the other IRA and INLA? I'm interested in hearing about all of them actually. I ordered the book on FARC that was mentioned earlier.

What do you all think of this book?

It's called "The Troubles: Ireland's Ordeal, 1966 to 1996 and the Search for Peace" by Tim Pat Coogan.

Oh, and about the Naxalite book that was recommended. I tried to buy it at the listed website and a few other Indian bookstores on Google. Two didn't ship to the US and the other just failed for some reason. They all used CCAvenue (some sort of secure payment website), which told me the bank denied my transaction the last time I tried to buy this. I'm sure I have no problems with my bank. Is there another place I can buy this?

politics of illusion by henry patterson is a good read gives you a grounding on the different political thoughts running through the IRA leading up to the split.
Follow that up with Lost Revolution and you will have a good grounding on how the different Modern Republican groupings came about .
There is a book about the INLA but i would not reccommend it as its author is Henry Mc Donald who never gave an impartial view on them but more or less done a hatchet job on them.

That didn't work very well. I ordered it from Bookshop of India, which didn't give me any problems after I straightened a few things out. I'll see how this goes.
