North Koreans, presumably.

This is pretty cool. The only other time they qualified was in 1966, when they reached the quarter-finals. Lets hope they do at least as good this time :thumbup1:
And I think they did achieve a lot of international support/sympathy in 1966..

Yes, but they cant reply to this thread.

hell, im supporting them
its not that i support that country and its system , but whenever they do silly things like sink south korean ships , do some maso-nuclear tests , and launch rockets on Japan i awlays laugh my ass off , fuck , they are craaaazyyy
but the most i like when they reply at any chance of south korea investigating something or proposing embargo "we will respond with quick but effective military strike"

So?
...so obviously my question wasn't addressed to them.

they're in pool G with portugal, brazil and ivory coast. not a big chance for them to make it into the quarters, but you'll never know.
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/standings/group=249729/analysis.html
Their second game will be their revanche against portugal, who eliminated them with 5-3 in the 66' quarter finals. I will certainly stir up shit in watching the game with the Portugese community here wearing m "korea is one" shirt :p

22nd May 2010, 16:56
Well they beat Italy in 66 so if they can do that again they have every chance of holding their own. It'll be a big propaganda coup if they win so i'm sure they won't want to blow it.
Im just concerned about the size of the supporters contingency. One half of the stadium will be deserted, surely?
:(

You asked who would support them, so I told you who might. Believe it or not, people who can't post on Revleft might still have their own opinions.

I asked who was, not ''who might''... ...ooh forget it.
They're in the same group as Brazil and Portugal so their chances are slim to nil anyway.

Unfortunately they have no chance of getting through the group stage.
Prediction for group G:
Brazil
Portugal
Ivory Coast
North Korea
Good luck to them though.

Maybe North Korea will find a way to make it through the group stage.
How interesting would it be if they were to end up playing a match against
South Korea in the quarter-finals for example?
Whatever the case may be,I'll be cheering for the DPRK from the opening in
June.
Scotland and Canada didn't qualify so I have no reason not to support the
N.Koreans.I'd like to see them knock off Portugal or Brazil for sure!

North Korea isn't as isolated as people think, DPRK students and athletes participate in academic and sports competitions all over the world.
I've read articles online about North Korean math students trumping their South Korean counterparts in math competitions in the Philippines and Spain.
In fact, the captain of the DPRK national football team, Hong Yong-Jo, actually plays on a Russian club team; and there're two or three more that play on Japanese teams.
I'll be supporting the DPRK in this world cup, but then again, I don't allow sensationalist corporate news propaganda to get me all worked up.

I support them after the Netherlands, it'd be hilarious of they won. Fat chance, still hilarious.

They're in easily the toughest group in the entire world cup. I might not support their government, but I do support lulz. DPRK all the way.

I support Spain. That's obviously where the Spanish Revolution was. I really hate North Korea, it's about as close as you can get to the actual 1984 government. What I hate is how people STILL call it a "communist state" even though the 2009 constitution purged all the communist jargon and replaced it with Songun. Also, the writings of Marx and Engels are generally suppressed in the DPRK. Even the bourgeois USA news knows this.

First off, why do you hate ANY country? Secondly, to call them "totalitarian" (which you basically) is reactionary and anti-Left, plain and simple. They have never called themselves Communist. They have, however, always called themselves Socialist. Where can you cite that says that all the writings of Marx and Engels are suppressed?

This is not near true, and sounds like something you'd hear on Fox News.
The BBC did a documentary in 2002 you should pick up called The Game of Their Lives (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0354594/) in which they interviewed members of the 1966 DPRK national team (they lost to Portual in the quarterfinals by 2 or 3 goals if I recall).
North Korea was the first Asian country to advance beyond the first round of the World Cup by the way.

Oh yeah, Marxism-Leninism is so suppressed in North Korea. It's not like they have portraits of Marx and Lenin on the outside of their buildings or anything.

1. I hate the North Korean government, not North Korea itself.
2. It's not reactionary if it's TRUE. North Korea IS a totalitarian state. I've read accounts of people who traveled in North Korea. They are not allowed to go to most places without a guard. Kim Jong Il is omnipresent, their calendar is based on the day Kim Il Sung was born, etc. All characteristics of authoritarian states.
3. I'm not stupid. I know they call themselves a socialist state.
4. The Marx and Engels thing comes from Reuters.

I consider Juche revionist, but I am personally sympathetic to North Korea, and will be supporting them even against my country(Brazil).
I also find their anthem the most beautiful of all anthems of existing countries.

For once, I agree with Hoxha. Even at its best, Juche is nationalist socialism. Hmm...national socialism. That sounds slightly familiar. oh god...

At the risk of being off-topic, my critic to Juche is basically that they disregard class struggle, and rely too much on the individual. I still support its struggle against U.S. capitalism and their South Korean lackeys though. And that includes sports. =P

isn't it based on when the revolution started? why should our calendar be based on jesus, that's reactionary. now i'm not for changing the calendary, but i don't think we should criticize north korea for changing their calendary. my calendar is holier than thou is pretty stupid.

I was amused that both South Korea and North Korea qualified. I wonder how they are handling those two team's accommodations in respect to one another.
Still, it's a tough group they are in. Though I admit, I will be keeping an eye on their progress.

I'll support any team against England. Outside of that I suppose it would be pretty funny to see the North Koreans do well and the media reaction to any such success in Western imperialist countries.

Would love to see DPRK win a game in this group, but you just know they will try for the 0-0 draw in every match. Probably the best they can hope for is a counterattacking opportunity or two, but they will pack the box and frustrate the hell out of their opponents. I wouldn't be surprised if they drew with Cote d'Ivoire, but I suspect that will be their only point in group play.

Ha, I think they gave up in the last half-hour today. Still wouldn't be shocked to see a draw with CIV, since they haven't exactly impressed either.
