Good morning!!
I have finally decided to register after lurking for a few weeks!
I am super excited to find a community online where many (not all of course) members share my perspectives regarding society and the matrix of domination.
So, I am majoring in Spanish and Anthropology and all the courses I have chosen contain a strong emphasis on critical theory (especially, critical race theory, post-structural & post-colonial theory).
After I graduate (only have a year and half left), my plan is to either complete a MA in Critical Sociology or Social Justice and Equity Studies. Furthermore, my ultimate goal in life is to do advocacy work with women and human rights NGOs or work in the immigration field--mainly because I am sickened by how racist the system is here in Canada (yeah, I know it could be worse), so I would love to help change that.
Anyway, like one of my heroes, Franz Boas, I believe it is a social scientist's obligation to speak out on social issues and like bell hooks stated "I will not have my life narrowed down. I will not bow down to somebody else's whim or to someone else's ignorance".
So, yeah, that is how I have chosen to live my life anddddd I do not know what else to say! :P
To those in Canada, I hope you all have a fabulous long weekend and to the rest of my fellow global citizens, I hope you have a great weekend as well! haha :-D
