The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine's Political Bureau issued a statement on May 8, 2010, rejecting all direct and indirect 'negotiations', and demanding that all Palestinian national and grassroots bodies reject external pressure and interference, affirm their independence and adhere to national positions and national rights.

Further, the PFLP Political Bureau statement called for a comprehensive review and rejection of the entire path of Oslo and the "peace process," replacing it instead with a strategy for a democratic, unified national leadership and rebuilding Palestinian national unified institutions on a democratic, inclusive and representative basis, firmly committed to Palestinian national rights rather than seeking negotiations with the enemy.

The statement emphasized that any return to negotiations is a break with the Palestinian national consensus and shows utter disregard and disdain for the perspective of our people. Furthermore, it said, such a decision only emphasizes the monopolization of decision-making and illegitimacy of any such decision which only serves to benefit the occupation, consolidate Palestinian internal division, and endanger the rights and interests of the Palestinian people. Furthermore, it puts the constants of our Palestinian cause on the bargaining table in exchange for United States donor funds, supporting U.S. hegemony, control, and imperialism in the region, said the statement.

The full statement is below:

Statement issued by the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine

To all of our Palestinian people, in the homeland and abroad:

The official announcement of the Palestinian Authority return to "indirect" negotiations with the occupation is a clear retreat from the commitments made to the Palestinian people and a departure from the national decision of the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization in its "constitutional meeting" last January, and completely counter to the context of the national mood of our people. It is a circumvention of the national commitment to not resume negotiations in any form without complete cessation of settlement building and commitment to the authority and implementation of international resolutions relevant to the cause of Palestine. These so-called "indirect" negotiations are encouraged by the occupation, which is now breathing a sigh of relief, inducing the Palestinian arean to return to the endless maze and cycle of "negotiations" and yet more "negotiations" as the overall national climate continues to worsen. Such an action threatens the foundations, achievements and fundamentals of our liberation struggle, and puts at risk the national program of the Palestinian people - return, self-determination and an independent state with its capital in Jerusalem.

The resumption of the so-called indirect negotiations comes as a result of external pressures, particularly from the American administration, to reconsider the Palestinian position demanding the halting of settlement construction. Meanwhile, it comes amid the intransigence and insistence of the occupation to build the wall of racial segregation, Judaize the holy city of Jerusalem and obliterate its Arab and Islamic character, besiege the steadfast Gaza Strip, threaten our people in the West Bank with military displacement orders, and detain thousands of prisoners behind bars.

The acceptance of the "indirect negotiations" continue to excuse the U.S. administration and the so-called Quartet of their ethical, political and legal promises and responsibilities of the past and provide a cover to unleash the schemes and maneuvers of the occupation, under the silly pretext of "verbal assurances" by the U.S. that it will end what it calls "provocations." This causes a great harm to Palestinian national partnership and the credibility of Palestinian institutions, and abandons our steadfast people to the crimes and aggression of the occupation, poverty, unemployment and deprivation, psychological and physical warfare, isolation and alienation.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine sees clearly that the U.S. administration of President Obama has failed utterly to correct the losses suffered by the U.S. under the previous administration, in the face of the steadfastness and achievements of the heroic resistance of the Arab peoples in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine. This resistance has become a notable factor in measuring international interests, and is committed to a firm belief in our national cause, and to continue to struggle and engage in resistance in all forms to end settlements and occupation, free all of our prisoners, and achieve victory for speedy implementation of the right of return and national independence. As part of this resistance movement, we emphasize the following:

1. We refuse and reject the return to the failed, dead-end negotiations, direct and/or indirect, which has been announced by the Palestinian Authority and the PLO leadership.

2. We are committed to maintain the position of Palestinian national institutions and grassroots organizations to reject any external pressure and interference affecting the independence of decision-making and our national positions.

3. The decision to return to negotiations breaks the decisions of national consensus and shows complete disregard and disdain for the popular mood and national unity, and only deepens the skewed logic of acquisitiveness and monopolization of decision-making. It undermines the legitimacy and credibility of national institutions and decision-making and serves only the occupation and its plans to consolidate the national division, destroy our Palestinian national constants, and liquidate Palestinian rights. It serves U.S. projects and U.S. hegemony seeking to control the region and dominate the entire people and resources of the area, at the expense of the Palestinian cause.

4. We must proceed to a comprehensive political review and rejection of the so-called Oslo approach and all negotiations conducted on this basis. It is time to end the wasting of time and seize our rights, and build a strategy and a unified national leadership on a democratic basis, including rebuilding unified political and national institutions. Furthermore, we must establish a broad united front of popular resistance in all of its forms that is responsive to the needs of our people and builds the national struggle to defeat the occupation and achieve independence and return.

5. We must maintain, develop and build the boycott campaign against the occupation, its institutions and its projects. Furthermore, we must develop different forms of popular and official international coordination in order to follow-up to decisions of the International Criminal Court in the Hague and the Goldstone Report, in order to bring the occupation to justice in international courts and sanction war criminals. We must exert all efforts against any normalization with the occupation and its extremism, settlements and racism, and reject the logic of Arab states' "mediation" with the occupation.

6. We must end the ongoing state of division and demand that Fateh and Hamas end their power struggle and prioritization of factional interests at the expense of the national cause. It is time to prioritize the higher national interests and confront the occupation. It is urgent that the higher dialogue committee resume the dialogue and reconciliation efforts on the basis of the prisoners' document, the outcomes of the national dialogue and the signing of the Egyptian paper as starting points for an end to division, paving the way for unity, steadfastness and resistance on the path to freedom, independence and return.

7. We demand the immediate release of all political prisoners in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and to fight corruption in all forms, and commitment to the rule of law, democratic dialogue and the maintenance of public and individual freedoms, including respect for human rights, the right to freedom of expression, respect for political pluralism and intellectual diversity.

8. We must mobilize all efforts and move at an all levels to end the siege on the Gaza Strip and address the rampant unemployment among our people, provide minimum employment and combat poverty and hunger, and do our utmost to alleviate economic and social pressures on our people. We must support workers who remain steadfast, on the forefront, and the families and children of martyrs and prisoners at home and in exile.

9. International resolutions related to the Palestinian cause must be implemented by a truly international conference ensuring protection for our people, as a substitute for "indirect negotiations" and the authority of the United States, which represents a concession for the occupation and only gives it more time to deceive and mislead while expelling the Arab Muslim and Christian presence from Jerusalem, establishing a so-called "Greater Jerusalem," continuing expulsions, land confiscation and home demolition, utilizing hunger and poverty as a weapon and imposing the so-called "state" of cantons and temporary borders on our people.

10. This step serves the objectives and strategy of the U.S. administration in promoting its interests in the region, and reflects the extent of the threat of the complete absence of an international reference, that only benefits the occupation.

The national cause must unite under the call to end the aggression and blockades of the occupation, end normalization, and stop the persistent and destructive division. This requires the movement of our people and political forces at home and outside Palestine to end division, restore national unity and strengthen national steadfastness and adherence to national rights, including the right to self-determination, the establishment of our independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and the right of all Palestinian refugees to return to their homes, fully implementing UN Resolution 194.

Glory and eternity for the martyrs!
Freedom for the prisoners!
Defeat for the occupation!

I was under the impression that the PFLP at the very least pretended to be Marxist yet here in this statement there isn't even lame Stalinist rhetoric or lip service to socialist revolution to be found. They rightly complain about the betrayals of the PA and others and yet at the same time they call for greater "national unity". Unity between whom exactly?
