Negotiations for a unity government by May 28th are going nowhere. The Congress are refusing to join a government unless they lead it, and the UML is torn apart by internal divisions. In this context, Prachanda issues a call for the other parties to accept Maoist leadership before it's too late. If not... the storm is unleashed, and this time without the discipline that made the May Day strike the most peaceful mass mobilisation Kathmandu has ever seen.

KATHMANDU: Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today warned that the ‘paused’ people’s movement of the party would ‘explode’ after May 28 if the parties failed to forge consensus.
“The paused movement would explode after May 28. It may not be disciplined and will take the form of a revolt,” said Prachanda, while addressing an interaction jointly organised by 10 opposition parties led by the Maoists today.
“We’ll see what happens then. This government will have to take the responsibility of the consequences,” he added.
Prachanda urged all the parties wanting federalism, secularism and republican set-up to forge an alliance before May 28 or else it would be too late.
“We are ready to become custodians of the history and would ensure the victory of the people at any cost,” he said.
All eight leaders of the fringe parties came down heavily on the government, NC and UML. They said the incumbent government had to go to pave way for the national unity government that can ensure peace and constitution.
They urged the UCPN-Maoist not to waver from its stand and lead the movement towards success.
He claimed that the constitution was not being drafted from the Constituent Assembly. “Lenin used to say the reactionaries take up the agendas of revolutionary forces and try to prove them worthless but the revolutionaries snatch and save their agendas,” he said.
Maoist vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai wondered who was greater— constitution or Madhav Nepal? He claimed that other parties would also join the alliance led by the Maoists.
Standing committee member Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ claimed that Maoists and the two major parties differed on the definition of democracy.
“Madhav Kumar Nepal was the one defeated by democracy, while the Maoists came up trumps after the polls,” he claimed. Chand added that the NC and UML had hijacked the agendas of the Maoists.
MS Thapa of Rastriya Janamukti Party, Dr Keshav Man Shakya of Nepa Rastriya Party, Khagendra Makhim of Sanghiye Loktantrik Rastriya Manch, Bhumiraj Niraula of Chure Bhawar Ekata Party, Hari Charan Sah of Nepali Janata Dal, Sarita Giri of Nepal Sadbhawana Party, Rishi Kattel of CPN- Unified and Ram Saya Prasad Yadav of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum also addressed the function.
