Since i work at an big but still most of the time alternative programming concert venue i see (both professional and because i get free entrance when i'm off) a lot of shows, next to this i have an squat bar in my house and volunteer at diffrent (legalized) squat concert/bar spaces.
And sometimes i see realy good or realy crap shows that i want to share with others. And i asume others see intresting (both positive and negative) stuff aswell.
So hence this thread to leave both your 2 page lyrical story of awe and your oneliner "band X was shit" post.

Tonight the Agrolites (http://www.myspace.com/theaggrolites) where playing my work, i was off so i could enjoy their tight as fuck "dirty reggae" with an cuba libre and an spliff.
Sadly there was an poor atendance (compared to earlyer show i seen by them) but the band gave it all they had and then some more.
There wasnt a support act wich was also a shame but the band played a full good set with both old and new material. Dont know if this will sound as an orientalist insult but this LA band sounds almost japanese when it comes to their musical perfection wile still having that 4real ghetto vibe.
so that is an positive; now to an negative review

yesterday and the day before i had to work paul weller (http://www.paulweller.com/), while i'm quite an mod at times and always loved the Jam his solo stuff never apealed to me. Wich should leave his amazing muscial skills to enjoy.
Not this time, the sound was poor and the crowd had an horrible attitude so the night couldnt finish fast enough for me.
thank god when it did the bar at my house was still open and my mates Vurdalak (http://www.myspace.com/thevurdalakshow) where still playing an acoustic set. They saved the day (and the night, and the morning, if i get home in an bit i wouldnt be suprised if they are still on the couches in the bar sleeping of their hangover )

Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip yesterday, it was awesome.
It was at this festival and we had access to other bands as well, we saw a few but they all sucked apart from DLS V. SP, apart from this rapper we saw the last 2 songs of before them.

I've not been to a concert in a while. The last one was Nine Inch Nails, the lights in the sky tour. BUT I'm going this Tuesday to catch Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper on their Gruesome Twosome Tour. Can't wait.

So them a few years back, was an awesome show, probably had more energy and crowd participation than 99% of hardcore shows.

Negative: I saw The Black Lips and Nobunny at the Independent in San Francisco... I love Nobunny, but both bands were kinda low-energy that night (I think it was a Tuesday). The mosh-pit took up about 1/2 the space and had lots of energy though. I think this medium-sized venue was too big for Nobunny, so I'm only seeing him in tiny Oakland venues or Gilman Street from now on.
Mixed: Mos Def and Eyrkah Badu at the Fox in Oakland. Mos was terrible and disappointing - Badu was amazing.
Positive: A few weeks earlier I saw Thee Oh Sees, Ganglians, and Ty Segall at the Eagle Tavern. It's a tiny bar so at one point I found myself caught between two bar-stools in the mosh-pit. There were a lot of aloof San Francisco hipsters there, but when the music started and everyone ended up in a giant mosh pit, all the pretensions and hip-aloofness was dropped because it's a hard act to keep up when members of both sexes are constantly and unintentionally grinding with no distinction based on sexual preferences. It's also a bear bar, so I guess if I had to accidentally be shoved and pushed into the crotches of strange men and women, what better location:lol:.
Here's a decent review of that show. (http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/2010/01/last_night_thee_oh_sees_mayyor.php?page=1)
Soon I will be seeing the first reunion concert of a band I liked (and was alive for) the first time around: Pavement. I now feel old because I am excited about a reunion show after spending so much time and energy in the past mocking reunions of 60s, 70s, and 80s bands.

The last show I saw was Public Image Limited. They were AMAZING! If there are remainibg tour dates in your area, I HIGHLY recommend it. They were in top form and sounded great, they played a substantial slice of PiL's catalogue, plus a few numbers from John's solo album; "Psycho's Path." A few of the songs, like "Warrior" and "Love Song" actually sounded better than ever. They've still got it.

The last 'Concert-with-a-big-C' (ie., not a house band or bar music) that I saw was Willie Nelson in Montgomery, Alabama. I was honestly dissapointed in the performance, for several reasons:
1) The venue was very 'upscale' (The MPAC), something that conflicts with Willie's style and repertoire. For instance, I couldn't see Robert Johnson performing "Dust my Broom Blues" on stage at the Metropolitan Opera.
2) Balcony seating was cruddy. I suppose this relates to the first point, but nonetheless, it detracts from the experience of "being-at-the-concert", so it didn't help.
3) Willie seemed tired. I know he's getting up there in years, but if he's too old to perform, stay at home!
On the flip side, Willie's son, Lucas Nelson, rocked the house as the opening act, and later upstaged his dad when they played a duo. hHis kid is an awesome electric blues musician, in the likes of Muddy Waters, BB King and Howlin' Wolf!
Here's a vid of him playing Robert Johnson's "The Awakening" at a music fest in 2009:

Last show I saw was Gigantour 2008.
High on Fire - Alright opener, probably the weakest stage show on the ticket, though
Job for a Cowboy - This was the first time I'd ever heard them and I was pretty unimpressed to say the least.
Children of Bodom - I was dying to see this band play, and they were phenomenal.
In Flames - I remember being ok with this band, but all in all, I don't remember much of their set.
Megadeth - In-fucking-credible.

Last major show I saw was Children of Bodom, Skeletonwitch, Black Dahlia Murder
I mainly went there to see CoB, but Skeletonwitch blew my mind. Skeletonwitch were such a surprise of the night with stage presence and set list (not that I really knew many of thier songs before hand). CoB had a ballin set list as always. I didn't like Black Dahlia to the extent I like CoB, but they were still enjoyable.

I saw Paul McCartney last night. He was the opening of the new Consol Arena in Pittsburgh, and although he was awesome the other two times I've seen him (in Tampa and DC), he was absolutely transcendent last night and played for 2 hours and 45 minutes. The ultimate rock concert.
The new venue, though (where the Penguins hockey team will play), is nothing to write home about, despite all the local hype.

Been a while ago, but the last thing I've been to is the New Noise Festival. It's an annual, local, free Open-Air, featuring a bunch of Hardcore, Screamo, etc, artists, some Singer-Songwriter and Electronical stuff, screenings of the Edge documentation this year, Soccer World Cup screenings (this year), a bunch of posts with Records, and info on animal rights, straight edge and veganism. It also had some Skate contest. There were a bunch of bands playing, I saw Sailing On, La Dispute, Ritual, Celeste, Kaishakunin and Comadre. Looking back, I regret not seeing Ende/Aus, Punch and Glasses. Well anyway, it's an awesome festival : )
Some impressions (pictures not by me):

The reason I went there was because I absolutely love La Dispute. It was their last show in Europe. Apparently, from what I gathered from others at the festival, it was also one of the worst shows they did at the Euro tour. But then again, they had a shitty time slot, way too little time, didn't really much fit in with the other bands anyway and Comadre blew me away regardless, so it's all good!

It's been a few years, since I had been to any concerts, but in the summer of 2004 "Chicago" & "Earth, Wind", and Fire" did an amazing show in Cincinnati. There was an excellent DVD filmed from that tour. The video, that I have posted is not from the Cincinnati show, but it is from that tour.

Last show I went to was Lamb of God, Hatebreed and 3 Inches of Blood. I don't care for 3IoB but I absolutely love LoG and Hatebreed. The pit was pretty brutal and I ended up having to punch some guy in the armpit and give him a dead-arm because he kept intentionally elbowing people in the face. Being that I am a former employee of the venue and production crew I got to hangout back stage.
As a special treat I got to see my friends' band, The Athiarchists, play outside the venue after the show in a Uhaul they converted into a mobile stage; complete with roll up door, generator, fog machines and lights. After that show they left to follow around the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, playing the parking lot, without permission, and were officially added to the tour due to their tenacity.
If you are interested check out their site @ (theathiarchists).com Obviously, without the parenthesis.
They are a two-piece thrash metal band from Eugene, Oregon and I absolutely love them. Maybe some of you will too.
Sorry for circumventing the rule about no links until after 25 posts but I assure you that it is not my intention to spam the board with links, I have more respect than that.

Saw Man Man and Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers last night at music hall of williamsburg. Fucking awesome show. I had never heard Shilpa Ray, but they were absolutely amazing, particularly Shilpa herself. She's plays harmonium and was just going absolutely crazy on vocals. You can always immediately tell a trained vocalist from an untrained one when it comes to screaming, and Shilpa definitely falls into the latter category, but it didn't matter, she was amazing.
Man Man was fucking sweet as could be expected. They've got such an elaborate stage setup, it must be kind of annoying touring like that, but it definitely is worth it. There was a small TV on stage that played a video the entire time of just some confused guy's face as a slow trail of blood went from his nose through his mustache into his mouth. The whole band is incredibly talented and their eclecticism makes for such a great performance.
A lot of people say they're a Tom Waits ripoff and in a lot of way I got to agree, though I'd stop short of saying ripoff. Either way, they're good enough that they are still a great band in their own right despite the similarities. The crowd was awesome but it started getting a little lame toward the end. A huge circle opened up in the center and any of the few people that ventured into it would get drilled from the side or behind by a couple drunk guys spread around the edge just waiting for some aggro. I mean, I'm cool with really brutal pits, but Man Man's the type of shit I just want to dance and have fun to, not worry about getting my ribs cracked from behind. The aggression of the pit didn't really match the music at all, but either way, sick show, definitely check both bands out if you get a chance.

Just got back from Starscape, fucking awesome. Bassnectar's set was epic as was expected. Zeds Dead was sick, though I liked em better when I saw them at webster hall a month ago. Diesel Boy and Dirtyphonics were awesome. I really wanted to see Steve Aoki, especially given the fact that a ticket for one of his shows would normally cost more than a ticket for all of Starscape, but I forgot what time it was and was seeing Dirtyphonics. DJ Who did a sick set also. Datsik had a really good set too. Missed out on Skrillex and Borgore cause I was seeing Bassnectar, probably would've been way too crowded anyway. Flux was pretty awesome and I just managed to catch the end of Doctor P. Doctor P's was so epic because, for the last song, he told the audience that he wanted to see every glow stick in the air and as soon as the bass dropped, it looked like a fucking eruption of hundreds of different colored glow stick 30 feet in the air. Awesome. Pissed I missed out on Infected Mushroom. Saw part of Lotus, pretty unimpressive though -- I mean, they're good to listen to if you wanna chill out, but that's the opposite of what I wanna do at a rave.

although i must say i wouldnt have had paid 40 euro's for it and without MethodMan it would have sucked big time, he carried that show completely.

Saw 2 shows this weekend, first "the Agrolites", like always a awesome party, I never saw the guys give a half arsed show no matter where the venue is filled or not, if you like funky dirty skinhead reggae you will never be disappointed..
But it was drum and bass act "chase and status" that really brought the roof down tonight, venue was sold out for weeks and man did they deliver... most insane mosh pit, more intense than most punk or metal shows and 1500 peeps going absolutely ape shit.
Still weird to be one of the oldest people in the room at a d&b party, Seems that between Chase & status, pendulum and the dubstep hype the genre managed to completely rejuvinate it self.

Last show I saw was Boris in October. I was underwhelmed but mostly because of the venue itself and the crowd. Also, Boris played some of their stuff off of New Album which is great, but isn't as great live.
Liturgy and Asobi Seksu opened for them. I hadn't heard of Liturgy beforehand but they were great, though it took a little while for me to take a liking to them. Asobi Seksu actually blew me away, though, which surprised me because I wasn't all that into them when I listened to them at first.

I'm wicked jealous of this!
That's the second time I saw them. The first time was at the Starland Ballroom the August one year prior. Room was so packed that one person moving meant everyone was moving. Last song of the set was the untitled track from Smile and it was the most insane thing I'd ever experienced. I remember looking around and realizing that everyone's hair was being blown back by the amplifiers.
And then Atsuo stage dove on top of me.

Shit son! Where at (if you don't mind my asking)? Still havnt seen SFH, although I did catch LöC back in 08.
Last show I was at was Lawrence Arms in DeKalb, Il back in January. Small ass club, but was very fun. The pit was at optimal energy levels. Opened and closed with high energy, dual vocal songs which is great because it doesn't leave any element or member of the band out of the loop. I will be seeing them in November hopefully. I'm dying to go to a punk show. Lots of rage I need to let out in the pit.

Went to my first death metal show last night in Modesto. Small venue but there were ten bands that played, most were local. I thoroughly enjoyed about 7 of them. First time in a mosh pit, got pushed in and immediately punched in the face. Was fucking AWESOME! Incisus, Hard of Heart, Symbolik, and Wrath of Vesuveus were my favs. So tired now though, can barely walk around without legs cramping up and shit, totally worth it though.

Just came back from madball, terror, comeback kid and your demise show. Missed your demise, was very pleasantly suprised by comeback kid, way more punk and a lot less emo than I expected. A few ska punk bands a month ago. What stood out the most though was a group called 3versus4 which played Skints-esque reggae (although it was only skintesque because of the skints, otherwise it'd just be reaaaaal good reggae)

On Friday I saw Bad Religion with the opening acts The Bronx and Polar Bear Club. Against Me! was supposed to play, but I think their drummer left. Polar Bear Club was meh, nothing special. The Bronx was pretty good, I was impressed by them.
And of course Bad Religion was amazing, they're one of my favorites. Unfortunately the mosh pits were waaaay to intense for me. I got knocked over, and my upper ass area was in so much pain. I had to limp out and sit for a while. Either way, it was so great.

l couldn't figure out if it was an act or if these guys were 100% serious or if I got into a time machine and ended up on the LA strip in the 1980's. I hated, no, HATED glam rock in the 1980's but went to this show to laugh and laugh I did (at the band and at the people who were there because they though, seriously thought, it was still 1985 on the LA strip). We're talking washed up groupies, Deaf Leopard T-shirts and enough AquaNet to start a five alarm blaze if anyone lit up a cigarette.
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7lm8hvsTh1rbk41wo1_400.jpg
It was a mostly kitchy environment which I think offended some rather die hard 80's hairband fans but all in all I'd go again because it reminded me of the whole punk/metal vs. hairband thing in the 80's. I relived my youth that night but don't remember much because as was the case in my youth I was extremely drunk. Go see them play. Laugh at them then laugh at yourself for fist pumping and headbanging along with the crowd.

have seen two shows at the city's former squat house (I think they bought the house for 1 NOK or something, after years of struggle) lately. First I was at the release party for Haust's new album, "NO". The posters said it started at eight, but noone told us that "eight" meant "meet up at ten, first band plays ten thirty." So after waiting some long hours (with people from the band walking around which was cool), Bloodsuckers started playing. They're pretty new, but everyone in the band play in other more or less experienced bands. I've never seen them live before. They were good.
Then Haust started their set. They played through the whole new album from A to Z, which was a boring way to set up a concert, but hey. They were good, though, their new album is kick ass. They played too short, with only two old songs, one of them even in a bad version, but at least there was time for moshpits and the singer is always fun to watch.
It was cool to stand next to - and exchange sweat with - members of local bands that I listen a lot to. There was also this super-sketchy dude at the concert. He wore make up and had a blazer that almost looked like a cape. He looked like a parody of Dracula. He walkeda round with this weird smile and it seemed like he almost creeped up on people during the concert. He also danced creepily, although this was more of a bang-your-head-punk-concert.
Then some days later I saw a show with local band Dark Times and two bands off the NY hardcore scene, Nuclear Spring and Creem, of which I really like the latter (hadn't heard of Nuclear Spring before). This time we were late, though, missing Dark Time's set, which was a shame because I've only seen them once. We came in the middle of Nuclear Spring's set. They were okay, I didn't really feel it. Then Creem was on. They were really good. They also played too short, though, but I guess that's just punk. The audience yelled for more, but they just said "Encores are for Bruce Springsteen," and left the stage

Saw Bruce Springsteen @ Coventry last Thursday. Queued up 3 hours before gates to get into the pit, but apparently the last of the 1,000+ people in front of us had been there for four hours by the time we got there. The queue started as early as Tuesday.
Fresh from that rejection, we managed to get to the front of the normal standing area pretty easily, so we were close enough to avoid the middle-of-arena noise muddle that is inevitable in stadium gigs, and to have a pretty sick view of the stage.
Boss came on at 7.10 and played a pretty chilling Ghost of Tom Joad, became clear that the sound was properly sorted early in the show which is a good sign - the guitar was clear and loud and the harmonica pierced the whole stadium.
He played a few sign requests, had a few people up on stage and gave some dude a hug because of a sign request ('please bruce can I have a man hug'), then launched into the entire Born To Run album, at which point me and my mate wet ourselves with excitement. He added a nice touch by dedicating the album to the late James Gandolfini.
He then launched into two mini-encore shows, had several more people up on stage, including a girl playing his guitar (After a sign request saying 'i'd look good playing your guitar'), before finishing the show 3+ hours after it started.
Staying on my feet for 9+ hours was pretty gruelling, but my god it was worth it. As an already-converted fan I may be slightly biased, but it's an easy 10/10 show. I saw him last year in Manchester and thought it was a great show, but this beat it hands down. The fact the dude's 63 only serves to heighten just how good a live act he is.
Lil B at Santa Ana
I was at the front row. He freestyled and said he was ugly I said "NO YOU'RE NOT BASED GOD" and he pointed at me and said thanks for that. then after the show he was taking pics with literally everyone and I wish him a happy mothers day and he points at me and nods his head. then when my pic was being taken i told him what his music means to me and thanked for adding me on facebook and he said "no problem i love you" then after i took a pic of him and my friend he shook my hand and said "stay positive fam".

Saw Dark Times (http://darktimes.bandcamp.com/) and Urbanoia (http://darktimes.bandcamp.com/)in Moss, a town near Oslo. It was at a self-managed youth coulture house, but it turned out that all the people there were less than twenty people who knew each other. So it was a little awkward. The whos was OK, Dark Times had a couple of new songs which were really good.
Two or three days later I saw Urbanoia again, together with Blood Suckers (http://crushtodust.com/), Violent Reaction (http://violentreaction.bandcamp.com/) and Hounds of Hate (http://houndsofhate.bandcamp.com/). It was at this really cool place in the basement of what at least looked like a normal apartment building. It was great, especially because the guitarist in Urbanoia/bassist in Blood Suckers talked to us, because he had seen us in Moss. Star struck.

Went to a small gig in a local venue for, of all things, the launch of a real cider named after one of my mates (who is a blues and folk musician.)
Really fun night of discounted cider and good music :D First act was a raggy-looking bluesman of the name Dogfinger Steve who plays a cigarbox guitar and has a stomp-box made out of a license plate. He was followed by a prog-folk guitarist called Tim O'Connor (a bit like Jethro Tull with a bit of The Incredible String band thrown in) My mate played (blues and folk stuff, a few protest songs thrown in) then he was followed by a bizarre dance-pop act called the mark Robinson Experience (full laser show, keytars, middle-aged man in a jumper etcetera.
Final act of the evening was The Gherkins - 5 guys in eveningwear painted green singing old music hall and vaudeville songs with weird hats and instruments.
Like I said, a fun night

Toe. Best show I've ever been too. My only complaint was that they didn't play C or My Little Wish but whatever.

Saw Death Grips last Saturday, for the second time. One of the more intense shows I've been to and I loved the venue but it didn't compare to seeing them perform on a knee-high stage in a church basement, Flatlander or no.

Counterparts. I absolutely love like 80% of their songs but most of their set was songs that I was kind of indifferent towards. Why you do this to me Counterparts?

I saw Toto and Yes in concert on September 10th.
Toto opened the concert, playing a hard rocking and energetic 90 minute set with 15 songs covering the span from their 1978 debut album right through to their new 2015 album. They opened with the new song "Running Out of Time", and concluded with rousing, extended renditions of "Rosanna" and "Africa", bringing the crowd to its feet. New drummer Shannon Forrest brought some heavy thunder (accompanied by percussionist Lenny Castro), while founding guitarist Steve Lukather cranked up the amps and delivered some blistering solos. Lukather, keyboardist David Paich, and Joseph Williams were all in good form on vocals (with the latter sounding enough like Bobby Kimball for their oldest material). I'm not ashamed to say I knew all the lyrics and sang along with every song.
Yes opened their set with a moving tribute to their late bassist Chris Squire, who died earlier this year of leukemia at the age of 67. It had Squire's Rickenbacker bass all alone on stage, bathed in a spotlight, while a recording of "Onward" played and clips of Squire appeared on the two large video screens.
Yes played 10 songs in 90 minutes, almost all of them from their 1970s progressive rock glory days. 1983's "Owner of a Lonely Heart" was the newest song played, and despite drummer Alan White being the only member of this lineup to have played on that recording, it was a definitive version. New singer Jon Davison sounded so much like original singer Jon Anderson that if you closed your eyes you'd think it was Anderson. Steve Howe demonstrated his brilliance on guitar, steel guitar, and guitarra. Billy Sherwood stepped into the big shoes of Squire, and acquitted himself admirably. Former Buggles and Asia keyboardist Geoff Downes played synths, adding honky tonk piano to 1971's "I've Seen All Good People". Their encore was a truly epic rendition of 1971's "Starship Trooper".

Last night: The Misfits, She Demons, Avoid the Void, Beneath the Spin Light, and Says the Snake.
A good concert by all five bands. The Misfits focused heavily on their '70s/'80s material (including "Who Killed Marilyn?", which I don't think I've heard them do live before). I was really impressed by She Demons--an all-woman band from L.A.--and I briefly got to meet one of their guitarists. Now to wait for my hearing to return...

Opening act Rival Sons impressed me with their bluesy hard rock, while Black Sabbath rocked the stage for a good 80+ minutes of classic songs covering the years 1970-76. Ozzy seemed recovered from his recent illness, and it was a tight set musically, with the treat of some awesome extended solos from bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Tommy Clufetos. Great concert. I'm glad I went.
