If you want to know good ways how to not engage in activist activity, the Zeitgeist Movement is offering many glaring examples. Look into this gem for example:

You know, anyone could do a hunger strike for just about anything and drum up some mass support just because most of us have a sense of moral decency and humanity. I mean, any idiot could go on a hunger strike to end freedom of speech (which would be ironic given they were exercising free speech) and people would feel a teeny bit sympathetic. I think hunger strikes are just too cheap a tactic.
My name is Blake, I am a resident of sawbridgeworth, and im going on a hunger strike against monetaryism starting on election day may 6th.
My first response was "Cool story bro". And given the response so far, I'm not alone here.

The fact that he calls it Monetaryism and not Monetarism shows how little he knows about politics.

Hunger strikes could be useful for people who have been forced into institutions against their consent because of discrimination or political persecution, if they have a network on the outside with the media capabilities to show them. I doubt this guy will carry this through, or be allowed to sit in a cage for a few weeks protesting against the election.
