Right so I woke up and went to get a glass of water and now I can't sleep. So I'm listening to folk to try to relax. There is something about folk I find seem to be able to reach out to me whatever mood I'm in or at least it makes me think. It can also make me very passionate... specially after a few beers...
I was raised around folk music, mostly irish, but also some scottish and and of course more modern stuff.
Anyways I posted few of my favourite folk singers/bands. I'd rather if people are gonna respond with their own favourites, they do so with acoustic choices. NOT folk punk/ folk rock (NO DROPKICK MURPHYS)... and I think if you wanna post out and out country songs they need their own thread. Of Course there is some cross over though.

You should check out some Phil Ochs. You might even like newer folk bands like Vetiver. Check out the Felice Brothers too, they aren't 100% acoustic, but they've got some awesome material.

The Peat Bog Soldiers
Peat Bog Soldiers is one of Europe's best-known protest songs. It exists in countless European languages, became a Republican anthem during the Spanish Civil War; was a symbol of resistance during the Second World War; and is popular with the Peace movement today. What makes it perhaps so poignant is the knowledge that is was written, composed and first performed in a Nazi concentration camp by the prisoners themselves.
