Communism in the technology age

Im very interested in communism and its ideology, I'm just curious as to how effective it would be in today's society. With most products being made offshore for a cheap price with exploited labour. Would today's west be able to make a transition into this?

You mean that if the world went communist tommorow, we would still get fancy gadgets at a low price?
I think at first the west should make an endeavour (spelling?) to aid the underdeveloped parts of the world to get on track as fast as possible.
Imagine the whole world having full industrial capacity; i don't think we would have scarcity of anything...
