In what relation do the Communists stand to the proletarians as a whole?
The Communists do not form a seperate party opposed to other working class parties.
They have no interests seperate and apart from those of the proletariat as a whole
They do not set up any sectarian principles of their own, by which to shape and mould the proletarian movement.
Karl marx- The communist Manifesto.
So Marx would not approve of Maoism, Leninism, Trotskyism, he would think we are being petulant and throwing his teachings away in favour of establishing our differing parties.
I think we should all get back to our roots and read some Marxism, we should take note and explore, maoism, leninism, Trotskyism, but we should not let our movement become split into Sects.
Revolutionaries unite, for the workers and for the communist ideal!

In Stalin's 'Short Course' (History of the CPSU(B)), he basically repeats the same thing, that the vanguard party is merely a section of the working class, that its interests are the same as the working class' interests, and that the aim is to unite the proletariat, not split them up into sects. Since the Short Course is basically a Marxist-Leninist vanguard party handbook, we can conclude that Leninism is not contradictory to Marx's idea of the relationship between Communists and proletarians as detailed in the manifesto. Pretty much the same thing can be said for the Trots, they too claim that they are a section of the working class, that they have no interests other than those of the class, blah blah blah.
Leninist ideals do not just embody Marxist ones, they supersede them.

A section of the working class ruling over the rest of the working class is no dictatorship of the proletariat to me.

NO CLASS RULES OVER ITSELF. One class rules over another class. THAT'S THE VERY BASIC TEACHING OF MARX. Do you want to say that Bush, Clinton etc are rulers of bourgeoisie? Or the small Republican, Democrat elected candidates are ruling over the rest of the capitalists.:crying:

None of which Leninist or Maoist ideals ever create a different class or section-of-class deterring away from Marxist-thought. Think of Marxist-thought as a computer program. In order for a computer program to remain in a functional position, it needs to be able to adapt to new surroundings & to be able to keep up with the advances made as time goes by. In order for said program to do all of such, there needs to be upgrades. That's what Leninism & Maoism is. A mere upgrade to Marxist-thought as time went by. This picture wasn't just made to look cool you know:
