Well I haven't been sure how to go about this exactly, but here goes.

I'm a long time lurker of these forums that decided to sign up. Initially, I was mostly apathetic about politics. The way I saw it was that politicians were too corrupt and self-serving to do anything for the people, and I couldn't do a damn thing about it (I still tend to think the former, the latter not as much). The 2008 election took me out of that viewpoint a bit, because I was furious with what Bush and the Republicans had done, and stupid/naive enough to think that Obama and the Democrats would change things and make progress towards something better for everyone not just here, but the rest of the world as well. Nope.

Somehow my disillusion lead me to want to learn about Socialism, Marxism, and Communism. All I was ever told was the typical stuff that people in the US are conditioned to think (ex: my high school history teacher told my class that if our education system was run under Communism, we would all get C's regardless of how much or how little work we did). I guess I was never truly convinced by those views, because I had learned enough to know that the US wasn't this great land of the free that it claims to be, and definitely not an angel when it came to atrocities. After a little bit of research, I guess everything just kind of clicked with me. I'm still not sure what specific tendency I fall into, but I know for sure that I'm a leftist and that my beliefs lie in the general idea.

I'm here to learn more, get informed etc. and maybe even befriend some people that share the same views. As far as I can tell there's no one in my vicinity that does (I live in Nevada btw).

Nice to have you here =D

I was lucky enough to have a history teacher, although he never expressed pro-communist sentiments, he never expressed anti-communist sentiments either. He was a reader of Chomsky and made reference in many classes.

That makes a lot sense; I get A's too. Haha.

Anyway, welcome.

My history teacher is not necessarily anti-communist, she's just a little ignorant. Plus, there's a difference between simply learning stuff, and preparing for an exam & spewing out facts that an exam-board wants to hear. Anyway, welcome comrade :)

Thanks to all of you. I graduated 5 years ago, so I haven't had to put up with a bad teacher that spews conservative propaganda daily for a very long time now :)
