libco m.org/organise/general-organising [link broken because i cant post links yet] Have you been in touch with any of the national feds, the Anarchist Federation, IWW, Solidarity Federation, etc? There are groups kicking around near Slough, certainly for the all three of those groups.

Frankly I wish we could do a search by location to find if there were people in our area on the board.

I live in Reading. That's not far from Slough and we seem to have fairly compatable politics. /shrug

If you live in a small town, it's probably alot harder. I've been trying to get a group going for quite some time now. Got a couple people but not many. People around here don't seem to give a shit. I refuse to give up though.

This might sound a little bit off but it does work. Register with the state as a 501 not-for-profit and find or ask your local city for property they are willing to give away to set up a "coffee shop" or other business to help bring in a tax base. All it takes is one person to make that stand for a safe place for others to gather.

I don't know the South East too well, but I know that Nottingham has an IWW branch, which may have some comrades in and that maybe Whitechapel Anarchist Group may be aware of some folks around your area.

Of course, you could just start from scratch, by explaining to your friends your vision for the Slough, the UK and the World, but I'd strongly advise that you get in touch with a few comrades nearby first to give you a bit of confidence first and maybe introduce them to your friends when you know them well enough.

Id like to do the same, but how exactly do you set up an anarchist group if you are on your own?

Do you go to the social welfare office and hand out leaflets or what?

I've been looking for group in Northern Indiana, but it seems the closest is in Chicago, and I don't have the means to get there.
I think I might have to start one...

The other option here is to not look for people to form a group but to find something that's adversely affecting your community and organize around it- you'll meet a lot of interesting people that agree with you on that particular struggle.

The reason this works is because we don't have a lot of outright 'anarchists' 'socialists' or 'communists' but we do have a lot of people that share aspects of those beliefs- and they may know other people.

Keep in mind you'll be working with all types of people and people of all ages- which I just bolded because some younger folk don't expect to be conversing or giving ideas to people their parent's age.
