View Full Version : Writing a paper on the Nepalese Revolution

I'm doing a research assignment on what is going on in Nepal right now and I want to know if anybody could help me out finding some good sources. I need 4-6 sources and I've been searching the internet and can't find a lot of good sources about what has been going on recently(As in May 1st-right now as we speak). Can anybody show me any good sources I could use that shows what is going on and is pretty credible.

Sorry if this clutters this place but I can't find any good sources(Wikipedia can't be used, though that sucks anyways) and I noticed people like Comrade Alastair know where to get all the information about everything that's going on.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a few suggestions.

This is a bit egotistical, but I wrote a pamphlet on the topic which can be accessed here.

http://kasamaproject.org/2010/03/17/new-pamphlet-from-new-zealand-revolution-in-nepal/

It should give you an idea of the situation and it has some references in it you may find useful.

Your best places to start looking for info would be the following sites:

www.kasamaproject.org

www.southasiarev.wordpress.com

www.comradealastair.wordpress.com

www.ucpnm.org

http://krishnasenonline.org/main/index.php?pubid=87

I'd recommend this article as a great place to start. Senior UCPN (M) leader Gaurav explains the Maoist movement and it's tactical moves etc

http://kasamaproject.org/2008/04/09/gaurav-the-revolution-in-nepal/

The Nepali media is utterly shit, they're a pack of liars, but if you want to have a look anyway here's some sites.

www.nepalnews.com

www.thehimalayantimes.com

www.myrepublica.com

www.ekantipur.com/the-kathmandu-post/

Don't expect your teacher to consider websites like Kasama, personal blogs, etc. to be credible sources.

¿Que?

Is this for high school or college. If it's a college paper, you're going to want to use some academic sources. Try JSTOR.

By the way, nice sig...

Good points. There isn't a huge amount of academic writings on Nepal I'm afraid... the best strategy would be to go to Kasama, my blog etc and get the articles then go to the original source where they were published, and link to that. Your teacher should accept that.

What aspect of the Maoist movement are you going to be writing about?

I'd especially check out Jed Brandt (http://www.jedbrandt.net)'s recent writings from the streets of Nepal. This might be considered more valuable for an essay, considering that it has been published in various online journals and news sites including Monthly Review and Counterpunch.

Also the WPRM (http://www.wprmbritain.org/wp-content/uploads/nepal_documents.pdf) of Britain spent a couple months in Nepal and interviewed many of the leaders of the UCPN(M). This may be of value as well.

This is high school and my teacher said and I quote "If the source is a .org or .net I won't even question it, but if it's a .com you're going to have to tell me why it's credible."

He's an idiot conservative, he'll love my paper

I want to write about what is going on right now(As in what's going on in the streets like the may first rally, that crazy ring they made around the whole city, etc), what their platform is or at least what they're demanding right now, a small review about the People's War from 1996-2006(the violent part of it) because I understand that ties into what they want right now(PLA combining into the regular military), and what the movement means for the region if the Maoists win this battle.

That's fucking bizarre... I wonder if he knows how easy it is to get a ".org" URL hahaha.
