I dont bother writing about Fox News, Chomsky said. It is too easy. What I talk about are the liberal intellectuals, the ones who portray themselves and perceive themselves as challenging power, as courageous, as standing up for truth and justice. They are basically the guardians of the faith. They set the limits. They tell us how far we can go. They say, Look how courageous I am. But do not go one millimeter beyond that. At least for the educated sectors, they are the most dangerous in supporting power.

This assertion really struck with me, as the left spends a lot of time debating the most reactionary elements in soceity while leaving the liberal element completely unscathed. They truly are the secular priesthood which sets the paradigm for everyone in academia, business, law, the media and whatnot to follow. It should be noted, that at least in the US, the liberal element has been inching toward conservatism in the last thirty years, setting up a centrist framework from which to base ones presumptions on when engaging in political discourse.

the liberals also define what the left is to the public, so when they hear a marxist interpretation of society, they go, well the left wing support obama, but these guys are so batshit crazy they call himright wing.

it sets out two parties, and both argue with their own unique reactionary arguements.

fuck the liberal media, especially the aupposed left like hitchens

It's one of the ways in which Obama was a huge win for the bourgeoisie. They get to paint a really right wing politician as somehow being left.

Anecdotally, this has been terrible for some of the Anti-war energy that used to be floating around and focused at Bush.

Much like what Chomsky is saying about Fox, organizing people against Bush was easy. Organizing people against Obama? Not so much. This makes these liberal types much more dangerous.

When you have the media (except Fox) fawning over him, comedians on pseudo-News programs like the Daily Show and Colbert limit their critique and boo-yah every time he makes a retort against the wacko right, and nearly the entire bourgeois establishment world wide aching to get him elected, it's kind of hard being in the opposition.

Basically the world got another Clinton. A total liberal sellout who inches the Democratic Party further to the center-right and in affect the entire political spectrum. Progressives are shut out.
