On 1.17 a.m. May 5th 1981 Roibeárd Gearóid Ó Seachnasaigh passed on, after 65 days of hunger strike. I thought he deserved a tribute on here. He died in a prison hospital, an MP of the British Parliment, who he was elected to in protest of his lost of rights to be considered a prisoner of war, not a petty criminal (as maggie thatcher defined him) and as a representative of the irish trapped in the north. Whatever you think of the PIRA/ INLA it takes more bravery than most of us have to starve yourself to death in defence of your beliefs.

I've included some of his writing and song links to songs written about and for him below.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam, Saoirse go Deo. Beidh an lá linn... Tiocfaidh ár lá!*

(May he rest in peace, freedom forever. The day will be us... our day will come!)

Rhythm of Time, by Bobby Sands
There's an inner thing in every man, Do you know this thing my friend?
It has withstood the blows of a million years, And will do so to the end.

It was born when time did not exist, And it grew up out of life, It cut down evil's strangling vines, Like a slashing searing knife.

It lit fires when fires were not, And burnt the mind of man, Tempering leandened hearts to steel, From the time that time began.

It wept by the waters of Babylon, And when all men were a loss, It screeched in writhing agony, And it hung bleeding from the Cross.

It died in Rome by lion and sword, And in defiant cruel array, When the deathly word was 'Spartacus' along with Appian Way.

It marched with Wat the Tyler's poor, And frightened lord and king, And it was emblazoned in their deathly stare, As e'er a living thing.

It smiled in holy innocence,Before conquistadors of old,So meek and tame and unaware,Of the deathly power of gold.

It burst forth through pitiful Paris streets, And stormed the old Bastille, And marched upon the serpent's head, And crushed it 'neath its heel.

It died in blood on Buffalo Plains, And starved by moons of rain, Its heart was buried in Wounded Knee, But it will come to rise again.

It screamed aloud by Kerry lakes, As it was knelt upon the ground, And it died in great defiance, As they coldly shot it down.

It is found in every light of hope, It knows no bounds nor space, It has risen in red and black and white, It is there in every race.

It lies in the hearts of heroes dead, It screams in tyrants' eyes, It has reached the peak of mountains high, It comes searing 'cross the skies.

It lights the dark of this prison cell, It thunders forth its might, It is 'the undauntable thought', my friend, That thought that says 'I'm right!'

And the lyrics from The Blaggers/Blaggers ITA's Ten men dead

Unity, no unity, Love, no love at all, Reality blows out my brains, Self determination is what we need,Hate, do you feel hate, Murder, backs to the wall, Law, violate your laws,
Police corruption, whats the fucking use?

R.U.C. coming down on me, Holding me on P.T.A., R.U.C. coming down on me, I remember 10 men dead!

Terrorist, it's the S.A.S.,Intimidation, pretty intense,Death on Irish streets,
Surely its time we saw the truth?

S.A.S. coming down on me, Holding me on P.T.A., S.A.S. coming down on me,
I remember 10 men dead!

Freedom, not on the agenda, Menace, to society, Burn, burn that flag, Can you see the Irish chains behind the Union Jack!

I can...

I remember BOBBY SANDS,
I remember FRANCIS HUGHES,
I remember RAY McCREESH,
I remember TOM McELWEE,
I remember PATSY O'HARA,
I remember KEVIN LYNCH,
I remember JOE McDONNELL,
I remember KIERAN DOHERTY,
I remember MARTIN HURSON,
I remember MICKEY DEVINE,
I remember BOBBY SANDS,
I remember 10 men dead!

show me an englishman who starved until he died
but irish men have done it
With honour and with pride

You stand accused of murder
Their blood is on your hands
Francis hughes
Ray mcreesh
Joe mcdonnel
Bobby sands
Matin hurshen
Kevin lynch
Thomas mcelwee
Micky devine
patsy ohara and kerian doherty.

They have nothing in their whole imperial arsenal that can break the spirit of one irish man who dosent want to be broken.

Alot of socialists dont see Bobby as a revolutionary, theysee him as a democratic socialist cappie.

This however is false, even if he was not a full blown MLM, he was supportive of a 32 county socialist republic to the point where he starved himself to death, after living in excrement covered cells soaked with urine with only a blanket for clothing

More than any of us on revleft have done.

"He died courageously"
This sums up Bobby Sand's great persona.
