Physicians in Gaza have reported an alarming up-shoot in birth defects since the Israeli offensive ended in January 2009, reports the Palestine Telegraph.
The rise in birth defects is being attributed to Israel's use of white phosphorus as well as other chemical agents during Operation Cast Lead.
Doctors in Gaza's Al-Shifa Hospital have kept data on the rate of birth defects since the Israeli incursion reflecting the reported rise.
Although Israel's "Operation Cast Lead" technically ended in January of 2009, its effects are still emerging and will be felt for decades to come.
