I tihnk many of us are pretty sikc of being accusined of supporting "chaos" and "survival of the fittest" etc. But this only happens when we call ourselves anarchists, I find that when I simply refer to myself as a Syndicalist people are oftem curious as to what that is, and when I explain it (without using the word anarchism) they seem to support such ideas ("but it would never happen" )
So i've gotten into the habbit of not using the propaganda ladden word "anarchist" and I've got for these substitutes, maybe you folks can add to em?
* Libertarian socialist (not to americans)
* Voluntarist
* Autonomist
* Libertarian (not to americans)
* communist (small "c")
* Syndicalist
* Hippy :p
* Anarcho- *insert indeology*
* Confederal Socialist
* Libertarian Marxist (there very close, normal folk couldn't tell the difference)
* Libertarian communist
* Socialist
* Revolutionary Socialist

Anarkissed
Leavemealonists
Syndicalist --Good
Autonomist --Good
But personally, I call myself an Anarchist. Surprisingly people are way more willing to listen to your explanation if you say you're an Anarchist than if you said you were a communist. People prefer "mass chaos" to Communism. :lol: I wouldn't mind reclaiming Libertarian from the American cappies, though.

Would you mind explaining mutualism to me via PM?

* Voluntarist
I wouldn't use that one if I were you. It's already been taken up by anarcho-capitalists who realised that no anarchist in history outside their tiny sect actually agreed with them and they didn't want to be associated with us crazy collectivists so they renamed themselves voluntarists.
* Autonomist
Isn't that one already taken by Marxists?
* Confederal Socialist
Don't look now but "confederal socialist" is an ex-national anarchist turned Hoppean conservatarian on youtube :p
The rest of your suggestions were pretty good though, don't have much to add really :)

calling your self a communist or a marxist will make people think of stuff that is at least as bad as any think they associate with anarchism.
I think what makes more sense is to explain what it is you want/what your opinion is before you give it any label at all.

I think Syndicalist is a good one. Of course we're Anarcho-Syndicalists but Syndicalist is easier. I think this topic is very useful. I think its true that there are lots of connotations surrounding Anarchism. I do try to not say it as much as possible in favour of other words and then when someone asks what does that mean you can explain what you believe. Generally when I tell people I'm an Anarchist they say: the sex pistols? Infuriating. There is so little knowledge of Anarchism overall I feel and people seem to associate it more with a philosophical stance on order and freedom rather than a certain form of organisation based around mass worker and community decision making and a planned economy organised in the interests of working people.
Target practice. :lol:
Oh sorry necro, didn't see you.

Yes, let us repeat the unfunny joke again, just in case anybody didn't notice the first time.

Generally refer to myself as an Anarchist. Sometimes an anarchist communist or Libertarian communist. Sometimes i just call myself a libertarian. It mostly depends on who im talking to...

I've started calling myself an autonomist during conversations that I don't want to veer off topic with "omg u liek chaos and mayhem?!" stuff
Although since most people have no knowledge at all of anarchism, calling myself an anarchist is sometimes preferred to get people to want to learn more.

I prefer libertarian socialist. This is the term i've used since the '70s. It does work in the USA. Left-libertarian is okay but is not as clear what this means, especially not in the USA where even the Democratic party is called "left" by mainstream pundits. I'm a syndicalist but in the USA no one knows what "syndicalism" means. "syndicates" are what mafiosi or land sharks create.
When it comes to talking to people that don't know much about leftism, I always call myself an anarchist. I would rather be confused with someone who wants chaos and get to talk about what anarchism really is about than call myself a communist and get accused instantly for being an ex-regime supporter.

I actually remmeber him, saw some of his stuff, saw a site mentioning him, I like his discription though, confederal socialism is what anarchism is in the end.

Yeah that's what I was gonna say, Autonomism is already a tendency, albeit I agree with a lot of what Autonomists believe in apart from their anti trade union beliefs, but it isn't the same as Anarchism.

I rarely get myself into a position where I flat out have to say what my tendency is. I don't hang out with friends (or acquaintances) in a big circle where we all admit our political leanings/ideologies. More often than not, I will get into a discussion about what my perspectives are, ending with them concluding that I'm an anarchist (which actually happens a lot, which is nice), or with me saying it.
The point is is that I don't just simply say "I'm anarcho-syndicalist" with no elaboration and, instead, the elaboration comes before the label. It's also a good strategy to not "scare" people away.

Pretty sure the autonomist movement has both Marxist and anarchist members... The German autonomen are anarchist after all.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

I tend to go with "no bosses", since everyone has, or has had, a boss they hated. That usually leads into a discussion of the Incompetence Theory of Management, which leads to running the work place democratically. Its usually only when people ask after online resources that i mention 'anarchism.'
