I think we as Humans should be proud of being Human and not proud of being White or Black or Asian. My question is does race even exist as far as Science understands race ?
Shit, I'm not even proud of being human - I had no control over that, either!
yes, race exists as a social construct. That is the social scientific conception of it.
As a social construct, race has significant effects on people's lives, even though ultimately, it is a reified structure. Which essentially means that as humans, we create these structures from our activities, but they control us more than we control them.

Be proud of what you do not what you are.

True. We should only be proud of what we've actually achieved.

its great being a human and all, but when i look at nature i somehow feel like shit, look at what the ants can transport, look at the powerful sight owl posses, look at how its easy for a dog to heal after a wound.
we can achieve all that by technology of course, but its just a shame we dont have much beside our big brain.
Our bodies are really frail.

Why should we be proud of being human? I'm not, neither am I ashamed. I did not chose to be a human, why should I be proud of being a human just because I was born as one? Should pigs be proud of being pigs? I'm proud of what I have achieved, not of my species, gender, ethnicity or nationality. I did not chose to be born as a white, Swedish male, why should I be proud of it? There's no reason to be proud, nor is there a reason to be ashamed. I will be judged for my actions, not for the color of my skin, or anything else that I was born with.

Other simian species have opposable thumbs, too.

How can we proud of anything? Do we choose our potential or the social situation that conditions its realisation?
The problem with pride is that it is the egotists substitute for esteem.
If we were all to estimate what it is to be Human, the discoverys made would be revolutionary.

Whatever. And THAT'S the problem with Communism--you can be happy for things--be proud of things--and you get a big fat NO from communists.
Enjoy as long as you don't take life too seriously.

There's a line in the Randy Newman song "Rednecks" which goes something like, we may only be rednecks but at least we keep the niggers down. That's Pride and it's ego because no estimate has been made.

Good for you. I'm bald, and it annoys me a lot.
A poll to ban you and other hair chauvinists will be started immediately.

While being proud of being human might be pointless, I'm certainly unapologetically happy about being one.. rather than for example a dung beetle.
Or a proboscis monkey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proboscis_Monkey), that just really wouldn't work for me.

Why thanks! FYI I have hair for one reason and one reason only--I go to church every Sunday and pray to God to keep it growing, and I haven't been disappointed in the results.
(And now I can see good Athiest Commies [like Sentinel] saying, " well there is no God--but I do go by a church every Sunday morning, and if it DOES grow me some hair......" )
(Only kidding, of course. :D )

OK, it really annoys me a lot, but not that much.

My question is does race even exist as far as Science understands race ?No, race is subjective and has been socially constructed. Humans are pretty homogeneous compared to most other animals. Our history is kind of defined by migration and so unlike animals that fill small pockets of specific environments for many many generations, humans move around and have settled everywhere. There is very little genetic difference among people from different parts of the world - there is much more genetic difference between groups of chimps for example.
I think we as Humans should be proud of being Human and not proud of being White or Black or Asian. Well part of being human is a wide variety of traditions and cultures and I think that many of them have very positive aspects and that they should be seen together as part of human heritage.
But specifically when people project cultural pride in modern society, it has a social role. In the US when people have "pride in American culture" they are usually not talking about Jazz, Blues, ethnic foods, not to mention ALL of American culture form all American countries. They mean they have pride in a mythical white christian culture like segregated Baseball and segregated music genres like rock and country.
In this type of atmosphere where you have Texas removing Thomas Jefferson from the History curriculum, while nearby Arizona is setting up 2nd class status for Latinos, firing teachers for having accents, and getting rid of ethnic studies programs, it is quite understandable that people would want to promote pride in oppressed ethnic groups just to counter the shame and supposed inferiority of these groups.
When James Brown sang "I'm black and I'm proud" people didn't identify with it in the same way Nazis identify with "white pride" slogans, they identified with it because aside from the last years of the Civil War and the most radical years of Reconstruction, blacks had been told by popular culture, politicians, the media, the schools, the churches, and other black people that being black was shameful and ugly.
