I ran across this game Buduj Vlas (http://www.freegamearchive.com/game.php?id=2515) that from what I can tell is kinda like a crude Simcity yet set in the Czech Republic before the breakup of the Warsaw pack. Problem is I don't speak Czech.

I've always wanted a Soviet city-simulator. Too bad it's pretty hard to understand and is so rough. I'd love more detailed commie-blocks. I just love monolithic giant housing blocks.

Closest I've got that is when I played Tropico 3. It's more of a light-hearted take on Latin American nations during the Cold War. You can become a self-described socialist but it's more of a state capitalism. Regardless, it is amusing building tons and tons of apartment blocks for all your people to live in- getting aid from the Soviet Union cuts the costs of Tenements and Apartments in half.

What I have in there are apartment blocs, but you can make low quality cement, large, bland tenement blocs if you just want to drive that point home.

This looks just like where I used to live, Mlada Bolselav, which is basically a car factory employing 24,000 people surrounded by a few tower blocks, or town, with a population of 48,000.

Oh, by the way, in the Soviet period it was Czechoslovakia.

It's unfortunate there are so few housing designs. In that regard olde Simcity 4 is still superior.

That game has to have by far the best sound track I've ever played with.

It certainly is. You can turn Sim City 4 into a pretty good Commie City simulator if you mod it a lot. There still a MASSIVE SC4 following and modding community around at Simtropolis. I used to have a City Journal there, but I've neglected it over the past few years, which is a shame to be honest, I had a lot of friends on the modding scene who gave me access to their Private works like Soviet vehicles and such (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Elburro/CJ/Sakhaliya/iponsummuit9.jpg). I got back into it a few months back but it's tiresome after playing the game for so long.

Ah yes, I thought you seemed familiar. I remember that city journal.
It was pretty inspirational.

The propensity for sudden crashes with the game at times is really annoying and one of the reasons I don't really play it all that often these days. One can't really play without that constant fear that any time you zoom out it might just close down and you lost all that hard work you committed to for the last four hours...

Thanks, they were part satirical though, they only really hit upon the standard definition of Communist societies that pollute the minds of the majority of people. It was supposed to pan out as a learning experience for both the CJ readers and myself, mainly refuting stereotypes, but never really turned out that way because I was too busy building crap and working out some crazy storyline to go along with it.
The amount of crashes threw me off a few times, I've been back at it recently though and the crashes seem to have subsided.
