Which prominent figures today would you like to have as uncles? Why? They can be celebrities, politicians, intellectuals, etc.
Bartholomew Roberts

David Harvey. He is one heavy-weight intellectual. We could chat about the theory of the falling rate of profit all through the night, over a bottle Jameson's whiskey. What a night...

I second that, David Harvey looks and talks like a kindly old grandfather

"Prominent figures today" refers to the living, not the dead. Mine has been on camera quite a bit, talking about the Eurozone crisis over Greece on TV and speaking as part of election campaigning.

Sure, just tell me what Bayram is. Also, what would you give me?
Devrim

Sure, just tell me what Bayram is.
It is the generic word for festivals/holidays. I was referring to the Muslim religious festivals though, sort of like Christmas, maybe.
Also, what would you give me?
It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you.

With all due respect, Devrim, you're not exactly prominent in the way celebrities, politicians, intellectuals, etc. are. ;)

Jacob, I didn't nominate myself for the post, somebody else did. It isn't my fault that you are jealous that I give off the airs of a kindly elderly uncle, and you don't.

Come to think of it, we did joke around calling you 'uncle Devrim' a few years ago, didn't we?
Sigh, years go by so quickly :)

Too bad Albert Hoffmann died a year ago and Foucault has been dead for years.
I'll settle for Chomsky I guess.
Surprised no one has claimed Fidel yet.

You could say he's historically regressed
I thought about Zizek, but drunk ex-trotskyist sounds mildly more entertaining than a sweat-soaked babbling, incoherent eastern european.

I'm not envious of you at all. I'm nowhere near your age. :)
Meanwhile, the efforts of my "uncle" (talking about the Eurozone crisis over Greece on TV and speaking as part of election campaigning) have paid off today! :D

I know that a female sibling of ones parents is an "aunt" but what's the equivelent for avuncular? How do you express someone has the manner of an aunt?

That or John Cleese.
Or Devrim.

I did end up looking it up on google. Those people were right it's materteral, for some reason the word for paternal aunt (amita) is left by the roadside in this one. Odd.
