View Full Version : Any plans for May 1st?

So, what's everyone doing tomorrow? In my location, there will not be a large-scale celebration this year, but of course, we'll be having a few drinks. In other cities in the Netherlands there will be all kinds of stuff, like demonstrations, parties, dance nights, etc.
It's unfortunate that May 1st is not a holiday here. This is because of Queen's Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen%27s_day). Of course, the nights before and after Queen's Day are also good opportunities to get drunk. Long live the Queen!

So take off man! Just kidding, you gotta pay the bills, I guess.
In the US, most of the people who March on May Day are immigrants' rights groups. There's usually a pretty big one some 30 miles from where I live. Given the whole Arizona thing, it might be bigger than usual. On the other hand, it's supposed to rain, so that might keep people indoors.

#1 way to insure that most workers immediately tune you out: March down the street with a giant banner of Stalin.
Really, I sometimes wonder if you folks do it just to be edgy.

lol at Stalin, but what's he got to do with may day, or in fact the working class? I was going to be canvassing tomorrow, but it wasn't very organised so that's not happening anymore. But on Sunday I'll be canvassing for TUSC and SPEW.

Well he had a pretty big hand in building the first ever true worker's state, that is of course depending on what your definition of a worker's state is

The reason that you have met far more Leninists in real fife is because there are far more Leninists.
Left communism is an absolutely tiny political current, but then we have never claimed otherwise.
The idea that it is an internet ideology is very interesting though:
To be honest I've never seen a left communist in my life, and that's the truth like the hohxaists and titoists
How many members of the ICC post here? The answer in case you don't know is two regularly, myself, and Leo. Occasionally a guy from the UK section, Alf posts too.
For us the internet is a part of our work, but only a part of it. We decided to put a couple of people on Revleft as we felt it was enough. Leo because he is a student and has lots of time, and myself because I often work split shifts and have the time to do it.
The majority, but not all, of the other people on here who call themselves left communists do so because we engaged in discussion with them. We don't, however, do it just for discussion. We have used Revleft to try to engage people in our political work.
For example, I believe that 'maldoror' has written for our press in the US, and I know that Nic Rossi is involved in an initiative to develop left communist politics in Australia. I talked to him about it at the recent ICC meeting in Faridabad, India.
Didn't you have the ICC as one of the groups you are affilated with? Considering the American branch is based out of New york City, I would have imagined that you would have met one.
I find this really bizarre. As 'the doctor' says this guy had himself down as a left communist on his profile, live in NYC, but never went as far as to go and meet our people there. And people suggest we are an internet tendency!
same here, and I'm beginning to think they're one of those ideologies that only exist on the internet,
There are very few left communists in the world. I have already said that. In the US we are tiny. Where would you meet them? well here in Ankara, I think the best place would be on workers picket lines. If you went to one you would be pretty certain to meet a left communist.
I personally first met the ICC when they were giving out leaflets outside a mass meeting when I was on strike, back in the 1980s.

I'm beginning to think all of this, "I've never met a Leftcom in all my life" and the opposite that you state here, is in all fairness to the people involved, simply because people aren't in the same political circles.
