I often hear a lot of talk about how the French unions sold out the workers in May '68 however I don't know that much about the time period so was wondering if someone could expand on this?

A good book on this is Obsolete Communism: The Left-Wing Alternative (1968) by Daniel Cohn-Bendit.

Um, these might be useful? 1968 - A chronology of events (http://libcom.org/history/1968-chronology-events-France-%2526-internationally) and Maurice Brinton's diary from France 68 (http://libcom.org/library/May-68-Solidarity).
