Well Jefferson promoted a romanticized myth of small yeomen farmers working the land and reading philosophy when the reality of agriculture in the US was large plantations and wealth built by slaves. Now Ron Paul and other libertarians push their idea for "good capitalism" rather than the "bad capitalism" people experience every day, they believe a myth that "real capitalism" is a bunch of mom and pop stores so people will own their little shops and read philosophy.

The reality is that they are the dupes of the past 30 years of the bosses offensive. They argue that large businesses with "unfair" practices are the RESULT of regulation - totally ignoring that monopolies pre-date major regulations by the capitalist state and big business is the reason that the state put regulations in place: to bring legitimacy back to big business in the eyes of the population.
