Anyway I found a video of the EDL burning a Nazi flag, and claiming to not be racist. Feedback?

If they think for a second that doing this is going to prove they aren't racist or gain them mainstream acceptance they really are as bright as everyone thought they were in the first place. All they've done is turn off potential allies in the knuckle-dragging bonehead demographic which makes their group even more irrelevent.

Yeah, the EDL have always been big into promoting themselves as anti-racist. Also it's worth bearing in mind that there's a very prominent strain in British nationalism that sees Nazism as German and un-British, and so prides itself on being nationalist but anti-Nazi, as with the whole cult of Winston Churchill.

Agree, I never thought for one second these guys (because let's face it, they ARE mostly guys) were Nazis or even fascists, burning a swastika doesn't make you any less vile or racist though, it just shows that they are dying for a shred of credibility.

the dutch version of the EDL, SIOE also tried to distance them from the nazi's showing up at their actions, they made anti-nazi statmenets, waved israeli flags, only consequence? not enough people anymore to have actions in the first place.

They might be trying to distance themselves from the group of people who tried to destroy England. If you want to be taken seriously (as serious as a fascist group can be taken, anyway) it wouldn't very appropriate to be connected with the same people who tried to conquer you.

I certainly think they could be, but at the moment I have very little reason to believe it as I have yet to see evidence of this, the only thing they have in common with true fascist movement that I know of is the fact that they are completely racist, that alone does not make one fascist

This. These people are IDIOTS! I doubt very much they have any idea of what Fascism is. They think Mussolini is a pasta dish. They are part time football casuals and middle England curtain twitching, daily mail reading snobs too afraid to see themselves for what they are. The opposition to Nazism and its imagery is pure tokenism, like The Ungovernable Farce said, the cult of Churchill. 'We' beat the Nazi's, therefore Nazi's = Bad. But there is no ideological basis to this, its lip service to make their "movement" seem acceptable. The hilarious thing about it is that this unoubtably alienates a large chunk of their potential support base, as the thread on stormfront shows.
