Truly a huge loss in the hip-hop world. One of my favorite rappers ever for sure. There was a period where I would listen to Moment of Truth everyday.
RIP Guru.

I was thinking of starting a thread on this.... Another hip hop legend leaves us. Rest in peace, Guru, we'll never forget you.
This hit me kind of hard, since Gangstarr has meant a lot to me over the years...I remember listening to their stuff when I was in high school and it helped me through those times. Guru always kept it real and stayed true to himself, and I hope the next generation of emcees can honor that legacy.

Very sad. Full clip has always been one of my favourite hip hop tunes.

This news really upset me. I've always loved Gang Starr, even after I distanced myself from hip hop.

I dont believe for a minute Guru wrote that letter, like he would write some huge appraisal of Solar on his deathbed.
"Well it looks like the end, better write a few paragraphs about how amazing Solar is."
Solar wrote that.

Nobody does. There are a lot of people coming out and telling stories about how Solar was overly possessive and actually beat Guru frequently.
There is a disproportionate amount of speculation that it was more than a business relationship. The one silver lining here is that if this proves to be true, it would likely do a lot to challenge homophobia in hip-hop. If any living rapper were to be outed today, it would destroy their career, but hip-hop respects the dead.
