- Points of Unity
The points of unity are the core concepts that define our organization. All current and prospective members must agree with these points. They may only be changed through a consensus of all current members.
1. Class Struggle- Our struggle is that of the majority of the population, to seize from the ruling elite control of our resources and the power to govern our own lives. We don't believe the class struggle is limited to economics, but feel that it is a struggle that takes place in every sphere of life. We consider the struggle against bigotry and injustice in all its forms to be implicit in the struggle for a non-hierarchical society. We are anarchists. We want a classless society.
2. Ecology- The conditions which allow life on earth to flourish and persist are under threat because of human disruption of the delicate ecological balance. When we talk about the ecological crisis we are talking about the survival of our human species, the survival of the earth and all its creatures. We recognize that our struggle for freedom is inseparable from the ecological struggle.
3. Organization- The organized common action of the masses is the foundation of the social revolution. We embrace a model of dual organization where we operate both in specifically anarchist groups and broadly based popular organizations. We believe in the leadership of the rank and file.
Additional organizational cohesiveness may be built through position papers. One member drafts a statement on one of the issues of the day and the rest of the group then debates and modifies it. The purpose of theses position papers is 1) to systematically build a common politics within the group and 2) the papers also have an educational function in that the members will be exposed to a variety of information and opinions during the debates. Position papers may also be distributed in pamphlet form and are adopted through a 2/3rds majority vote.
