I'm taking an online class called Social Problems. It's like Sociology but more in depth on certain issues: abortion, health care, income inequality, aging, crime, etc.
So this guy in my class is ragging on the health care bill U.S. Democrats passed and is calling it socialism.
In what way is it socialism when the government is requiring you to buy a product from a company?
I had to call him out on his bull (and I've done so before when he tries to give socialism a bad name) but I doubt he'll respond. I just hate it when people call things socialism or socialistic when they aren't.

In society comrade, there are many people who choose to listen to the nonsence the capitalist exploiters propogate, Obama is not a socialist, he is a house Negro, he serves lockheat and BEA like those old house Negros served their Masser, If Obama was socialist would he continue to plunder the Middle east, would he have given a pledge of 10 billion dollars to isreal over the next decade, if anything North America is heading to Fascism, just because Obamas Melonin is different to Bushes that does not mean they are different.

I think it could be offensive to compare Obama to a slave ("house Negro", "serving his Masser") because of his black heritage. this kind of rhetoric is not helpful to our movement.

I don't see anything wrong with it when used by POC. I'm not even sure I'd have a problem with White folks using it either, but I'm not Black. I think Malcolm's use of the term was extremely helpful in building consciousness, actually.

The problem with America is that there is a very strong ideological indoctrination there, coupled with strong religious institutions and an electoral system which is benefitting conservative rural communities with few people above progressive urban communities with lots of people. I would guess that "left-wing" candidates like Kucinich would be chanceless pitted against a Republican candidate, unless the Republican candidate is a complete kook (Ron Paul).
