Horribly hungover, yes but never drunk. That's for afterward.

I drink a few beers on a demonstration sometimes, when there is a sound system pumping and we roll through the streets I like to turn it into a party. When doing clandestine actions I don't like it when people drink or do drugs, even though I have seen some crews barricade a complex in hours on speed.

From what I've seen, it's actually something of an issue within the German left. Tons of kids go to anti-Nazi marches thinking it's going to be some sort of party, and they spend more time sitting around drinking beer than doing anything else. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're out there, they just need to get it through their heads that this isn't for f*cking fun and games. Luckily, it's not all bad: the German comrades I've worked with (SDAJ, primarily) are extremely responsible, effective and serious about their activities. No doubt about that.

no, the drinking is for when a bunch of your friends get kidnapped off the streets in white vans and you have no idea what is going on for twelve hours and hole up in a house with fifteen other people who all think they are next.
not that that has ever happened to me.

Sounds like a right ol' comfortable situation there ...

Ah, the pub next to the police station in the city centre, I have many happy memories of that place. Also, it's a post-action story, not a pre- or during an action one, but the story about TAT and the church in Brighton is pretty amazing.
