Finding myself stoned, bored, and having DVRed Se7en with Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt I watched it 4 times this past weekend and have grown to appreciate it more than I thought I could. Not because I think the twists are surprising or some lame-ass shit like that, but because it is a well made film with some great fucking acting, among many, many other reasons.

So I was wondering what the prevailing attitude of this film among my colleagues on RevLeft is, and would love to hear your thoughts on the film.

Great film with plenty of memorable scenes. Everytime the seven deadly sins come up in conversation I use my memories from this movie to remind myself what they are.

Not exactly easy to forget, John Doe's methods, are they?

It's one of the examples I use when I argue that films with little violence can be more disturbing than films with a ton of graphic violence.

Another example is Spoorloos (The Vanishing). Both Se7en and Spoorloos stayed in my head a lot longer than far more violent films.

The way they are killed fascinates and repulses me, both at the same time. Especially the fat chap at the start... wow...

I thought it was really interesting and well done. But, I watched it years ago.

Some people think at the ending Mills has a dilemma... only dilemma I'd have would be to load another clip after I emptied the first or not. Is that fucked up of me to say? Yeah I guess. Do I care? Not really.

John Doe didn't win anything because we can't afford to play those games.

I thought it was overrated. The ending of the film left me really underwhelmed. Not to say it wasn't enjoyable or worth the watch, but certainly less than it is made out to be, I think.

Nic.

What exactly was it made out to be? I think most intelligent people could have figured out the twist before it happened, and they didn't try to say it was any different from what I could tell.

Gritty, smart, disturbing, and brilliant. One of my favorite films of all time.
