Salutations, friends and comrades. You may call me Nuvem; I am a revolutionary Democratic Socialist from Rockford, Illinois. I've come to Revleft by the request of my good friend Noth (who affectionately refers to me as a "sectarian pinko"). I'm a senior in High School, a month from graduation. I ask that no one discriminate against me or take my ideas less seriously because I am only eighteen. I've had problems in the past during debates with people playing the "I'm older than you and have more experience so you don't know what you're talking about" card.

That being said, I enjoy debate. I believe it brings into question ideas which are flawed and reinforces ones which are valid... I do not enjoy argument. Argument is bitter, emotional and rarely solves anything. I am one for structured statement-for-statement debate in which ideas are pitted against one another in a civilized, structured manner, not chaotic back and forth degenerating into barbaric personal insults and ugliness. In a nutshell: I'm not looking for drama, but some debate is welcome.

I'm a lover of history. I hope to become a history teacher when I am finished with college. Though I have a romanticized interest in the Medieval ages, I realize how miserable and unjust they really were and most of my passion lies with 20th century history, most especially political and military elements.

More than anything, though, I am a revolutionary. I firmly believe that the majority of nations have put in place measures which prevent a peaceful shift of power to Leftist ideologies and which stifle Socialists and Communists alike, restricting justice and cementing the dominance of the privileged few. Popular revolution is the only weapon which can tear down the structure of control.

I look forward in the near future to starting a Leftist group at my college and becoming a member of the SPUSA. My hope is to scare up all of the Leftists I can in my city and get them to put their combined energy together. If any of you are in the area, let me know.
As for the rest of you, it's good to be among you.

Regards,
Nuvem

Don't worry, we have a rule against ageism.

Sadly Revleft is full of drama :p

More than anything, we are a blockade to ourselves. If we stand united, as a class, there is no capitalist force that can stop us.

A great attitude :)

Hey there! I used to live in Crackford, too. Worked at a factory in Belvidere. Seemed like every morning I had a cop riding my ass all the way there. :cursing:

Welcome
Revolutionary... democratic socialist? That's a contradication, isn't it? Unless you feel that by adding "democratic" then you distance yourself from figures such as Stalin... which is good :p

No, not contradictory at all. My attitude is that revolution is necessary to bring about democracy, which can only truly be achieved by Socialist means, not like Social Democratic thinking (being the idea that Socialism can be achieved within the confines of a Bourgeoisie Capitalist constitution, state, government, etc.). My ideal Socialism has no political parties, no Republican functionality in the legislative branch (governed by a democratic, purely popular vote) and, of course, no glaring class distinction. While the Executive branch would still exist in a similar structure as that outlined in the US constitution, there would be fundamental changes to their actions and certain roles in society. Essentially, it is an abandonment of both Capitalism and Republicanism (not in reference to the American political party but the political structure in general), to be replaced by Socialism and popular Democracy. But I'm getting long-winded; these are just a few of the traits and of course isn't all-inclusive in my ideology, but that's some of the basic elements. My usual, over-simplified explanation is that "Freedom is won with bullets and secured with ballots".

Aren't I great?

Although I feel that some people call themselves "democratic socialists" to do nothing but distance themselvs from people who gave socialism and communism a bad name.
