auch, thank god i never liked them to begin with....

edit: you know what, i recon that if propaghandi would have made that song it would have probably even been quite good.

I usually don't complain about bands changing their sound, but that a band that used to be leftist anti-capitalists are now singing about voting is irritating.

Edit: And AM! never produced anything any good besides the Acoustic EP and Reinventing Axl Rose.

Frank Turner does being a cynical burnt-out ex-anarchist way better.

O dear fucking god, I remember when they were good/Sung about anarchism. On a side note did any notie a King Blues song being used in a cat food advert? Another hardcore sell-out anarchist band.

The Ungovernable Farce
18th April 2010, 19:51
Hadn't seen that advert, but the King Blues (like Propagandhi) let people into their gigs free to run anarchist infostalls. As long as they carry on doing that, they're alright in my book.

Really? I saw them on sunday and there was nothing there.

That'd probably be cos no-one asked to do one. Although if that was in Norwich, I would've kind of expected Now or Never to be there. Also they were definitely on the big union march before G20 last year and I think they've played Smash EDO demos as well. Their music is definitely not as good as it used to be, though.

Tom Gabel's solo album was still ok, and had an anarchist song on it.

Also, isn't warren no loner in that band/still an anarchist?

Yeah - there involved in a lot of politics and still identify as anarchist, Norwich is pretty sketchy on anarchist groups - I know theres two maybe three that exist purely on paper :/ (Student anarchist Union, I thinkt here was a general anarchist union type group that never really came to exist properly and I'm pretty there was a third although that might of been marxist.)

Although everything I just said might be wrong/out of date information.

I thought that by the end of the 80s everyone already knew that when it came to bands "anarchist" was just a niche marketing label.

There's a guy in my local group who used to live in Norwich till last year. Shame if there's not much going on there now, I'm sure it used to have loads of stuff happening.

Aww, I quite like some riot-folk. Then again, I also like some stuff that genuinely sounds like nails on a chalkboard. Also, having read the stuff written by the members who just left the King Blues, I take back what I said about them not being dicks.

Lol at this post coming from someone named after a punk band. :p

I'm assuming that the video link was for one of the new Against Me! songs (judging by the posts). I can't watch it because it says the copyright doesn't hold up in my region (lol). Either way, Against Me! is awful on a musical and on an ideological level. Some of their old stuff (and barely Reinventing Axl Rose) was alright, but I simply can't stand anything else they've done.

And that song "I Was A Teenage Anarchist" pisses me off so much. Actually, it just makes me sick.

There are some good crust bands if you sift through the crap. Aus Rotten, Antischism, Nausea, and Witch Hunt are all good bands.

I actually don't like when punk music is centered around politics unless it's amusing and clever like the Dead Kennedys.

I know i'm being audacious here, but i am really beginning to question whether music is as compatible with idiology as I once thought. Mabey stuff like poetry can, but I think that so long as music is dominated by money (which it is at any level) than everything is designed to fit a stereotype and a 'nieche'.

Its all so 'cliche' if you know what I mean. Even the anarchist punk stuff. I never thought that I say this but even those bands seem a little 'generic' nowadays. They all try and fit this 'angry, rebelous, and reckless for the sake of it'.

This isnt a dig or anything at any anarchists bands, just when I see some of them, they look just as obsessed by 'image' as any commercial pop act.

Infact, I can remember talking to members of this small time (but successfull) band, who had started at the bottom and eventually got a little airtime on some (what I can only describe as) second and third division radio stations. I always remember how they used to totally slate all off the bands that where more popular than them saying that they where only after the money and image that goes with success etc. Low and behold, as soon as some small time record labels begin to promise them the world, they are the ones laughing at their former fans complaining about how they have 'sold out'.....so much for 'keeping it real' hey! (and they really where 'all about the music' to begin with aswell).

I always felt like Crass did a pretty good job of not falling prey to the capitalist nature of the recording industry.
Of course the music industry is dominated by money; at this point, any industry is, that's capitalism. I think at this point it is crucial that bands not fall into the hands of huge labels, etc.

too bad they fell for the pacifist nature of being total useless counter-revolutionairy wankers. Like mark barnsley said, nothing did more damage to the revolutionary potential of punk than fucking crass.

Bah, I used to listen to AM! all the time.. But most of the old 'anarchist' punk bands I used to love are infact just crappy liberals. What we need is proper punkrock with a genuinely revolutionary message, not just posin with the circle A.

And yeah Norwich is kinda lame recently
