It's not, though they're both about as socialist as the DSA.

I'm glad that I lived in a state with a socialist governor like Palin at the reigns.

Palin once attempted to defend her actions, stating that it was not socialism because the people of Alaska owned the resources that the oil companies were extracting.
Of course, no one bothered to point out to Mrs. Palin that her defense constitutes a textbook argument for socialism.
Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

It is actually true that policy in itself could be seen as socialist, if combined with other measures. Norway employed a similar system, and Norway is today the most left-wing of the Scandinavian countries.

I'm kind of glad. I'd rather see socialism lose all meaning than have simply the wrong meaning like it did when I was a child as a catch-all for everything wrong or illogical or oppressive about political and economic systems. Maybe we can start from scratch. I mean if the word "czar" can be written with a hammer and sickle (despite the fact that czars were feudal kings and in the US a nickname for positions pioneered by Reagan) then most people can realize the word has lost all meaning and might be more open to more definitions.

Norway by no means is anywhere near left-wing...
Taxing oil companies makes you a progressive, and not necessarily a socialist.

The Norwegian-oil is state-owned, but basically its revenue is going to the pension funds of the people.
