In chicago, Fred Hampton in an act of great revolutionary leadership, managed to forge an alliance and ceasefire between the most powerfull gangs in Chicago, including the 20,000 strong Black P Stone Nation as well as the young lords and a rainbow coalition of many more.
Comrade Fred explain that if they stayed at war with one another and carried on participating in crime they were only serving to help the government keep them down and under control and keep themselves enshrined in poverty.
Fred was murdered before the initiative could really take off, but in 1968 at the time the ceasefire and revolutionary process was starting not one gang member killed or even assaulted another, drug dealing dropped dramatically and working class unity began to descend on the streets formerly plauged by poor on poor and often black on blac crime.
Are we doing anything like this at the moment and what would yo suggest to help bring gang members into the movement, many of whom are the most dispossesed in our society?
