Apostrophes in Communism

I just had someone tell me that since there would be no property in communist society, there would be no necessity for the apostrophe to indicate a possessive noun in English.

The guy that told me that is one of those guys who you can't tell when they're being sarcastic and when they're being serious. Anyway, I just thought I'd share.

But they would not own apostrophes. Apostrophes would be a delicacy available solely to the party elite bureaucrats. They would enjoy them as a topping on the harvested lungs of white babies, which they had sought out because communists hate all white people.

That's slightly amusing. I hope that they don't mind if I steal it and start spreading the word that the possessive apostrophe will no longer be needed. It would certainly clear up "it's" vs "its" for all those people who (for obvious reasons) don't understand that "its" is the possessive. (Except, of course, Jim's hair is looking very nice, and how I admire Jane's poetry...)

This is true, and it needs to be emphasized because a lot of people think communism is about sharing everything, which it's not.

In a Marxian sense, the term private property in capitalism refers to capital, of the means of production. Thus, when the collectivization or communal ownership of private property is called for, it is talking about bringing the means of production into common ownership, not individual items that people use. Your car, toothbrush, books, electronics, etc. will still be yours even when property is collectivized.
