Police raid houses, arrest 6 in Athens; anarchists occupy the Athens Polytechnic in response
UPDATE, 18.15 GMT+2 Police have now publicised all the names and photographs of the arrested people. All six are charged with participation in the armed guerrilla group Revolutionary Struggle.
On Saturday night, police arrested at least six persons in house raids across Athens. All six are accused of participating in a terrorist organisation. At least some of the arrestees are anarchists (details about the arrests are still blurred) and people have occupied the Athens Polytechnic in response. The statement issued by the occupied Polytechnic reads:
Today, Saturday 10/04/10 police openly arrested 6 persons with the charge of participation to a terrorist organisation. At a time of financial crisis, while the government attempts to cover up its mess with support packages by the European leaders, it promotes through mass media the so-called quelling of domestic terrorism as part of its attempt to contain the generalised popular discontent.
On the night of Saturday, April 10th we occupied the Polytechnic and on Sunday the 11th we call for an open assembly at 8pm in the Gini auditorium, under the topic of state repression and terrorising-lust promoted by the tactics of the immune, neo-dictatorial police
THE TERRORISM OF STATE AND MASS MEDIA SHALL NOT PASS
POLYTECHNIC OCCUPATION
Updates on the case
The anarchist comrade Konstantinos T. was first detained on the street as suspect for robbery, then charged with gun-possession, as the police raided his parents house and discovered an antique gun owned by his grandfather. He will appear before court on Monday, April 12 a solidarity gathering has already been called for outside the courthouse.
Another comrade had her house searched for more than 24 hours before being transferred to the police HQ.
As of this time (1600 GMT+2) a solidarity gathering is taking place outside one of the raided houses in Exarcheia, Athens. There are large numbers of riot police and of the motorcycle delta force in the area.

Update 14:40 (local time): According to the media the 6 arrestees are charged with 4 felonies (participation in terrorist organization, attempted homicides in common, supplying, manufacturing and possessing incendiary material/bombs in common, explosion in common and attempt to provoke explosion) and 4 misdemeanors (distinct damage due to explosion, illegal possession and use of guns) related to the organization “Revolutionary Struggle”, on actions dating back to 2003.
UPDATE (13:50 local time): At 13:00 local time, the cops tear-gased and beat up comrades that had gathered in solidarity. 2 people were detained for alleged resistance and insulting the authorities after the clash, and were taken to the local police station in Kipseli. More riot police units have been moved on site.
The 6 arrestees were taken to Evelpidon (Athens courts) at 10:30 am (local time) in order to appear before the prosecutor. Their transfer resembled a Hollywood setting: streets nearby were blocked, 6 jeeps of the intelligence service along with several motorcycles and undercover police vehicles paraded, while cameramen were filming all along.
Approximately 150 people have gathered in solidarity outside chanting slogans. Strong anti-media sentiment due to the infuriating stand the media have taken by publishing photos, names and filming the interior of houses raided yesterday. The place is packed with cops, and there was tension when the 6 arrived. The procedure is estimated to last until late tonight, and our presence there in solidarity is extremely important.

These things come one month after the death of anarchist Lambros Fountas by cops guns and tw weeks after the "strange" bomb explosion which caused the death of a 15 year old immigrant from Afganistan, which the state said that it was done by Conspiracy of Cells of Fire.CoCoF denied their involve in the incident.
Class war is all times high. They are filling prisons with comrades. We have over 12 prisoned anarchists(one of them is Alfredo Bonanno) in Greece.Last night riot and motor cops raided in Exarchia, arresting 70 people after an attack on PASOK's central offices.

Wow! If this doesn't just say deja vu to what all took place during the rise of the RAF, then I don't know what is. My support goes out to the Anarchists.

Manolis Berahas is among those whose houses were raided these past few days in relation to the “Revolutionary Struggle” organization. According to “leaks” more search and arrest warrant are on the way. At the same time, 4 new names were announced an hour ago on the news, although no arrest warrants have been issued. It seems like the media have taken on the role of investigators and judges with great zeal…
In his letter to the police and the media, Manolis Berahas gives a firm reply to those that have targeted him and his family (one of the 6 arrestees is a relative of his):
“I am the “intellectual”, the “chief”, the “resident in the prefecture of Magnisia” who “travels often to Athens and the island of Ikaria”, “who has an organizational role in antiauthoritarian rallies”. I wonder, is there an end to your list?
Do I fit, by any chance, the “profile” you know how to design oh-so-well when you create “terrorist organizations”?
Is there a piece missing in your puzzle and you find me fitting?
* So yes, I am 60 years old (although in the movement I belong there are no chiefs, let alone middle-aged men!).
* And yes, I live in the house you searched on Sunday 11 April 2010 in Kipseli (21 Sporadon St.), where you obviously found nothing.
* Yes, I am the father of K.G.’s wife [trans.note: he is one of the 6 arrestees], in other words he is my son-in-law!
* Yes, I am the grandfather of their two 16-month-old children, and finely
* Yes, I am an antiauthoritarian.
I admit to have taken part, since the 70s, in the social/class struggles that the oppressed wage against state and capital. And because the list is long, I will only mention recent ventures. I actively participate in the “Coordinative in solidarity to refugees and migrants”, in solidarity rallies to the revolted Zapatistas in Mexico and to the imprisoned, in the “Solidarity to K. Kouneva Assembly”, in the “Popular Assembly of Petralona, Thisseio and Koukaki (Neighborhoods’) Residents” and in the “PIKPA squat” (in Petralona).
And in order to facilitate your investigations, I announce that these past few days (i.e. ever since you began your terrible arrests and investigations), I stand by my daughter, at her home, which you also searched on Sunday 11 April 2010. As it seems, the Hollywood super-spectacle of the breaking up of the “Revolutionary Struggle” was the best remedy to disorientate society on the enacting of your antisocial, anti-labour measures, as well as Greece’s monitoring by the IMF.
Indisputably, solidarity to the persons that are prosecuted as alleged members of the “Revolutionary Struggle” is guaranteed and will be massive. I am one of those who stand in solidarity to them and will do so until they are released.
Criminalizing family ties and bonds of friendship is a well-known tactic of yours against those who resist, and I consciously oppose it.”

yesterday in Crete was an occupation of a local TV station.Comrades read this letter:
At 9 o clock, the newscast in central creta channel was occupied by 70 anarchists in solidarity with the 6 arrested and persecuted comrades accused of involvement in the revolutionary struggle. Following is the text read during the course of action: For the financial crisis, the attack on the anarchist-antiauthoritarian space, for comrades prosecuted on terrorism, for the suppression and the media It is no coincidence that the announcement of "dismantling" of the "terrorist organization" has coincided with the announcement of the inclusion of the Greek economy in the control of the International Monetary Fund. A hit that will not hurt the industry, bankers and other pests of the society but rather the weaker teams and the working class. Argentina, Bolivia, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Thailand, Sudan are countries that have accepted the guardianship of the IMF with dramatic effects on living standards of their population. But there is a significant detail that shows how the political situation in Greece is, at this time: The majority of the countries involved with the IMF were countries coming from a military dictatorship, with a dissolved society with extreme economic inequality. Similarly, this time in Greece we are experiencing a "democratic" junta, which under the cloak of social democratic government is been passing measures (job, cuts, insurance, pensions) that the most conservative governments were unable or did not dare to launch them. The government through the media fosters guilt in everybody for all the scandals and scams designed and implemented by the government and parliament all these years. The same moment that various peddlers pimps journalists in the media (Media Fraud) misinform and speculate on the mess of the economy and the sacrifices to be made by the jobbers, and the redundants, the Greek state-beggar makes very expensive deals on French frigates and German aircrafts worth several billion. Euro and strengthens the already hyper-profitable banks this month with16 billion. Euro from our own pocket. For comrades prosecuted for terrorism cases ΤΟ END THESE LIES. THEY ARE FIGHTERS NOT TERRORISTS With the assassination of Lambros Foundas on March 10, 2010, starts the next try, after the supposed dislocation of the conspiracy of cores of fire to disorientate the society from the economic crisis that has as a result the impoverishment of the lower social strata and the recovery of the wrecked image of power. The weapons that were found on Lambros Fountas in conjunction with his politic identity and the position taken as an anarchist against the world of power is sufficient to create a scrawled script of terror-hyseria. The State vows to crack down terrorism and to show that work is being done (at least in this area) after a month of desperate effort stretches his long arm to play its most vulgar card. All the media reproduce the false leaks with their reports being in accordance to the police. Stark example the non existing telephone call between the ruthless killers who were laughing watching young children to blow up ( 15 year old afgan boy case) . The supposed evidence challenge the intelligence of the public by tallking for a former prisoner condemned for bombing actions, considering that a whole army of cops is watching him closely for over 15 years, the only thing they did not find in his house is an illuminated sign saying "We are terrorists." The friends and comrades of Lambros after the threats of Chroisochoidi and his friends (Bakoyannis, LAOS, and others) walk with their arms and go to Athens Hymettus for shooting ... with rusty bullets! And while the police is monitoring this "fact" is the same time looking at homes across the country for their weapons. How many tragicomic will we hear and read these days more ... In the end, all persecutions are based on manufactured evidence that cannot convince either the most naive as well as on fingerprints found in books and other items that have nothing to do with armed groups. We on the other side stand the weapon of solidarity to our comrades who are active fighters and present in every social and antiregime fight against the real terrorists. The terrorists of life the same, that by any means criminalize personal relations and blackmail by repressing who ever is acting against them and their anti-social plans. EPILOGUE In view of the such inevitable and unprecedented social explosions that are coming, the anarchist scene as it is the most radical piece resisting in this society, is also the first recipient of the repression. The ideology of subjugation in the name of national unity, to make it acceptable to more and more poor citizens must be imposed except other means, also with violence. Human solidarity and resistance to the dictates of the bosses of this world is to count for the anarchists throughout the course of history. And as such,it cannot be suppressed Springs out by the very existence of the unjust system, it is fleshout of the societys flesh and will forever haunt the dreams of bosses. As long as the oppressed exist, anarchist action and consciousness,it will be born from their ranks And it will counterfight the brutality of power up until its total destruction. FOR THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF THE 6 ARRESTED SOLIDARITY TO ALL PERSECUTED

Letter of Kostas Gournas
Kostas Gournas is one of the six anarchists arrested recently in Athens, accused by the police of participating in the urban guerrilla group Revolutionary Struggle. Kostas wrote the following brief open letter to the minister of public order, Michalis Chrysochoidis on Friday 16.4, when he was still being held at the 12th floor of the police headquarters in Athens. While there Kostas was evidently tortured (police-released photographs testify this). Kostas has since been transferred to the prison of Trikala in the north of the country where, together with another one of the six arrested anarchists (Vaggelis Stathopoulos) he is being held under “special conditions” – that is, with limited access to toilet and water and with many obstacles in his communication with relatives and lawyers.
I would like to personally thank the Minister of Public Order Mr. Michalis Chrisochoidis for the special treatment he reserved for me, with the beatings, threats toward my wife and kids and my pre-trial detention in the Prison of Trikala, which will deny me the elementary right of every prisoner, to communicate with their family. Honestly, I could not believe he would slip down to this level. However, because I have learned since my 20 years of age to overcome whatever hurdles, I shall remain upright. You will not achieve my physical and my political extermination.

12th floor, Police HQ, Athens
The threats and torturing of those held in relation to the so-called “Revolutionary Struggle Case” will not result into the extermination of any of us. They seem to have failed to understand that one of us will make not even a single step back. We are, and we shall remain on their side. Our solidarity can not be “exterminated”.
