View Full Version : Somethings been bothering me...

I've been talking a person lately who happens to supports Ron Paul and he believes the 9/11 truth conspiracy theories (as he told me that he would not believe otherwise till this day due to "so much evidence" he says), who happens to be anti-immigration ("the illegals are taking our jobs" he claims), which he also supports bringing the military home to "defend it's borders" (as he claims that this is because "many countries hate us so we must protect ourselves" and maybe it goes back to his anti-immigration beliefs...Well I think he maybe mislead in that part since I have a idea that when Libertarians say "protect our borders" they actually mean using the military to protect them from the working classes and such I would think), although he also supports Unions but I have a feeling he has a reactionary view of it (I think I remember him telling me that the Union concerned about the "working man" while women should stay home and take care of the kids...although he may be explaining what used to be when he was growing up but he did have a somewhat supporting tone of it...).
Even though this same person also does have a somewhat "socialist" vision about for example "a person flipping mcdonalds burgers will be able to travel the world due to his work" as he remember telling me though.
Is there anyway to respond/debunk/rebuttal all his claims? Is this person I'm describing a Libertarian?

The person you are describing doesn't seem to be a libertarian. He seems to be one of those who have become disillusioned with American politics and has instead picked an ideology which appeals to him and doesn't have the bad baggage tacked on by the media that Socialism got. This being said he doesn't seem to be a bonafide libertarian, more of the types of self-described "libertarians" we have been getting over the past few years in the States.
When I read through your description of him, he seems to have a petit-bourgeois outlook on things.

That's how most of the "9/11 truthers" were. I would know since I use to be part of that b.s. But the good thing about these people are that, despite their dogmatic beliefs, they can converted to truth if you really sticked with them.

IF he is a free marketeer, why does he oppose immigration? It should shift the LRAS curve to the right, init?

He's more nativist than capitalist I guess.
