Just doing the obligatory intro thread for my first post, for lack of any better ideas.
I'm from Washington State, just finished a BA in political science, planning on moving to East Asia later this year to teach English as a second language. Atm, I'm working as a cook but in the long run I'm hoping to land a job with an NGO and work on development projects in the global south.
I like to describe my politics as Socialism and leave it at that, partly because I think sectarianism is one of the biggest thorns in the side of the left. I figure I got turned onto Socialist ideas when at about the age of 10 when I asked my mom something along the lines of "Why do we have money? Why can't people just give each other what they need?" and my 'schooling' just kind of fell together after that. Read the Communist Manifesto in highschool, chewed on those ideas for a while, and decided I was fullblown pinko-commie-scum sometime in my early 20s. Today I get my fix of politics mostly from Rosseau, Weber, Marx, Engels, Sorel, Luxemberg, Lenin, Gramsci, and Lukacs.
