View Full Version : The future of DIY - Decieding the agenda

Hello peoples. In the true spirit of democracy, I figured that we could get a bit of a discussion going about what you think should be done with the DIY forum, even if it's to state that you think it's fine as it is and just needs to occasional prune.

So, cracking on. I've got a few ideas for an agenda, please feel to add suggestions.

1) Should DIY be left as it is?
2) Does DIY need a different approach to modding that's not already covered in the forum rules (http://www.revleft.com/vb/faq.php?faq=general#faq_faqforumrules)
3) We have a LOT of stuff stickied, can any of it be de-stickied, either due to it bieng repeated, out of date, or offtopic, etc?
4) Anything new that would be good to sticky. One possible suggestion for this is an ecylopedia of confirmed succesful DIY projects.

I'll update this post with new suggestions as they appear and I'll start up a new thread for each point (which will be achieved at a later date) for discussion. I'm thinking that after each thread has become dormant for 3 days straight, or for two weeks, whichever comes first, everyone'll be ready to vote on the subject. A poll will be added to that thread and you'll all be invited to vote on the proposals. There'll be a week of voting and then whatever you've decieded, I'll crack on with.

I haven't been on here for long at all but I lurked for a while so I'll get the ball rolling with what will chances are be shite answers :)

It's not the liveliest forum at the moment so I think some attempts should be made to prod it awake a bit more (Not saying that these aren't already happening)

2) Does DIY need a different approach to modding that's not already covered in the forum rules (http://www.revleft.com/vb/faq.php?faq=general#faq_faqforumrules)

*Shrug*

A lot of the stickies need a bit of tidying up a couple like the resources one could do with re-nameing and with the older ones it might be worth makeing sure the sources are still sound.

4) Anything new that would be good to sticky. One possible suggestion for this is an ecylopedia of confirmed succesful DIY projects.
Guides/tips etc to DIY projects that have worked well would be a good idea.

On a side note you seem like your gonna be a pretty sound mod

A frequently covered topics sticky would be good. So a list of all the good homebrew threads and a list of all the car-related threads etc.

I would be willing to help with that.

Also I don't think necroing should be banned as DIY advice is not time sensitive and one wouldn't be responding to an argument from five years ago, just adding new info.

The Following stickies could be eliminated:

What is DIY Culture- a pretty silly and poorly written explanation

OR's OP in Security Culture could just be added to security culture information and the former thread destickied

DIY Groups- it is mostly empty and has some broken links

Resources should be renamed to mental health and addiction resources and possibly destickied.
