So I and my classmates in the marxism and feminism course are going to the netherlands on the 10 may staying about 10 days. We've been invited by the SP so we already have sort of a program, but i was wondering if anyone knew anything interesting happening in that time? We'll be in Eindhoven and Rotterdam and probably some more places. Also does anyone know anything about the anarcho-syndicalist union in the Netherlands, is it still active? My anarchosyndicalist classmates wants to know. ;)
Oh and if anyone wants to say hi or grab a beer or something I am all up for it.

Great to hear, comrade! But you wouldn't have any answers to my inquiries would you?

I'll PM you my phone number so we can get a few drinks in Rotterdam. AFAIK there's not a lot of interesting stuff happening, besides the ABVAKABO (public services union) congress on May 19 / 20.

Anyone know anything about any anarcho-syndicalist unions or decent anarchist organizations in the netherlands?

Are Onafhankelijk Verbond van Bedrijfsorganisaties still active?

I hope you'll have a good time. There are plenty of anarchists active, though I don't think there are any significant anarcho-syndicalist unions.

Well, the reason I am asking about anarchists is not foremostly of personal interest, but because we have quite a few in the class.
I'd be happy to drop by any ml's or trots doing anything interesting as well.

Yeah I know, just sayin'. I do believe there is an anarcho-syndicalist organisation, but I do not think Dutch anarchism is very oriented towards syndicalism in general. I suppose an "anarchist union" in the Netherlands is pretty much like the reincarnated IWW in some countries, i.e. not really a union by any normal definition of the word. But I don't know that much about it, so I might be mistaken. :p

I don't know if we have any particular activities in the places where you're going at that time. I'm all the way in the north of the country (Groningen), where our activities are a bit more regular (more and more union work, stuff like that). But ask Deconditioned Reflex (http://www.revleft.com/vb/member.php?u=11663), just to be safe. :)

I would refere to Ravachol (http://www.revleft.com/vb/member.php?u=17987) for questions about anarcho syndicalist organizations in the Netherlands

The last lifesign of the OVB, according to Google, was in 1989. There isn't even a wiki page about it.

www.anarchistischegroepnijmegen.nl is another anarchist group. But there are no active syndicalist orgs. around right know, I do think that syndicalist activism is getting more attention in the anarchist scene, mainly due to the cleaners strikes.

There are several Anarchist groups rising in the Netherlands. On the first of may there will be a demonstration organised by a large assembly of anarchists/socialists. This demonstration will be in Nijmegen.

Next to that there is an anarchist camp in the Netherlands from the 21st to the 24th of may: the Pinksterland dagen in Appelscha.
This is a weekend full of workshops and discussions, people to meet, bookdistro's etc.

Yeah, go to the pinksterlanddagen. And when you are in ansterdam, ask psycho for the train to Utrecht. Every saturday info-shop in the Ubica. One of Utregs oldest squats. And more autonomous places to visit.

Yes, that would be awesome. I'll pass the information along to the class and we'll see what we can do. I think we will be heading home at th 19th though so we will probably miss pinksterlandsdagen.
