I'm not entirely certain if anyone here still remembers me, but I just thought I'd introduce myself for the benefit of members who joined during my latest of extended absences from the board.

I'm an anarcho-syndicalist, originally from the Panhandle of Florida, now living in the SF/Bay Area, California. That, in and of itself, is an interesting piece of history. You see, for me, this place holds something of a special bit of nostalgia. I met my girlfriend of 6 years, with whom I currently live and moved 2100 miles cross country to do so, on RevLeft. Her handle's EneMe, in case any of you are curious or happen to remember her.

At any rate, I have a feeling that at least in the short term I'll be posting regularly here. I count myself amongst the millions of unemployed by the recent economic downturn, so I've plenty of free time on my hands, lulz.

As a final word, I'd just like to say it's good to be back, and feel free to ask me anything you like.

Welcome back, glad to see you moved away from this hell-hole. Even though I would prefer the North-East over California...even the Pacific Northwest over California maybe.

I'm starting to wonder that perhaps there's like metaphysical "evil" force in all of Florida that just wears you down, makes you stupid, or drives you crazy...my friend from NJ somewhat believed this.

Well yeah, I've always wanted to live full-time in Boston, Seattle, or Portland, OR. Trouble is, EneMe's parents live here in East Bay. If you know Latin women at all, you know about their devotion to their parents/family, so it'd probably take a stick of dynamite to pry her more than an hour's drive from them.

I don't know about a "metaphysical" evil in Florida as I'm not given over to such superstitions these days. I don't know if you remember my early days around here, but I was then a self-avowed Buddhist. These days I'm simply an agnostic. In any case, I do agree that living in Florida in general and the Panhandle in particular will definitely impact your soul in the same sort of way wisdom teeth get 'impacted.' I will say that I still suffer from about the same amount of existential angst now that I did in FL, but I feel like that's just baggage I brought with me when I left and nothing to do with this particular clime. To sum up my feelings toward the area I'll just quote a boss I had when I was 17. He had a way of putting things succinctly in perspective that almost certainly stemmed from the fact he was a redneck, "Yuh see, Nevin, Panama City's like fuckin' quicksand. Once yuh git one foot in, yuh cain't get the other'n out agin."

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome to all those who've given it. I'm sure before long we'll be metaphorically duking it out in Theory or Politics sooner or later.

That sounds about right.

Although I study in the South-West part of Florida (although I've visited the Panhandle, particularly Pensacola, once or twice). No disrespect but I always got the impression that once you go north past Orlando or Gainseville it just gets worse.

Shit, no disrespect taken. Why the hell do you think I got out? I mean, apart from the girl and all.
