The n-word poll gave me the idea for this topic.

Beforehand I'm going to state that any and all discriminatory words in this thread are used in a non-discriminatory way, it is being used exclusively for the discussion, I do not mean to offend anyone so please don't take it that way. If I need to edit them somehow let me know.

I want to start by asking, does anyone feel that by being offended by discriminatory language, we give them the power, by them feeling they have put us down, they get lifted up? For example, I'll use myself so I won't be offending anyone, if I was to be called a 'dirty cracka' or some anti-white term, and I was to be offended, they would feel better about themselves as they feel I was being degraded. If I was to not get offended they would feel as their efforts to hate did nothing and had no effect. I think we as individuals should, to an extent, not be offended by hate speech. To not be offended, I think, we take their power away.

All hate speech terms have been transformed and turned into hate, not originally what it was meant for the use of. The dictionary definition of the n-word is an ignorant person...and racists are ignorant, so...lol...I think you know where that goes lol. But seriously, the definition of the word 'f*g' is to tire or weary by labor, a blemish in woven cloth, or a cigarette. A 'fa**ot' is a bundle of sticks used as a torch or fuel. All we need to say to ourselves is, 'Hey, I'm not ignorant. I'm not a bundle of sticks.' It might seem stupid but I think it would get us past the being offended. What do you guys think?

If someone calls you a faggot then why would you make a conscious effort to let it slide? Especially if you're gay or LGBT. You should call out whoever said it to you. Same goes with being called any sort of racial slur. Those aren't insults that should be accepted at all and whoever said it needs to be challenged on it or have it explained. Sorry, but I'm not liking this idea of making it seem unoffensive to yourself by switching the meaning.

I see your point. Understandable. I was just thinking...maybe too much lol. But if you let them know it offends you they'll keep doing it, if it doesn't maybe they wouldn't see any point to doing it. I don't know. I have strange theories sometimes lol.

There's quite a bit of a double standard lately when this issue comes up. If a guy called me a "*****" or a "pussy" of some kind and I did nothing, most people would consider me a coward(even if I disagree), but if a white person calls me a nigger and I do something, that makes me sensitive. Also, there's been an increased amount of anger regarding anti-white racism, along with encouragement to respond to such treatment. You can't "disarm" one group of people from reacting while arming another.

I know this isn't what you're doing, I've seen your posts and you certainly have your head on straight. I'm sorry, but bigots in every sense have had most of history to express their hatred without punishment or even minor retaliation(this would be punished severely). One thing I've noticed is whenever any minority group faces discrimination, they say "you wouldn't say this to a black person/woman, so why is it okay to say it to me". This is because blacks and women have historically been extremely vocal and hostile against discrimination. Whereas some groups, such as Asians, have been more passive and tolerant regarding these issues. While this can give you "model minority" status, you end up with a situation where you're constantly degraded(not just made fun of in a comedic way), and in the case of Asian males, having your masculinity undermined.

If you call a black person a nigger, it's a common expectation that you'll get a swift punch in the face. If you expected the same when calling a gay man a faggot I guarantee it'd be far less common than it is now. Bigots only answer to fear. If there's no fear, there's no respect. Even if they'll just call you a nigger or faggot when they're around other people, at least you don't have to hear it right? Right?
