In many books written by che, he praises to the hilt camilo cienfugeos, he named his son after him and before camilo died, he was due to make the corrections in ches book guerrilla warfare.

In Cuba to mark the martyrdom of camilo, schoolchildren go to either the beach, river of other places with water and throw flowers in, this signifies how he died (his plane was lost at sea the day after the revolution was won.

When a comrade i know visited cuba she said the people told her that Camilo was their most beloved hero of the revolution, one old lady even had a painting of him in her house above the one of fidel :)

Why the hell cant i find any books on him, can anyone reccomend any

Thanks

Now that you mention it, I'm not certain I can think of any books specifically on him. I can only suggest reading some stuff that mentions him, like Che's diaries or Fidel's autobiog, and other works on the guerillas in the Sierra Maestra. Sorry not to be more helpful..:(

You may have an easier time finding something if you spell his name right. :)

Camilo Cienfuegos

But nah comrade, I haven't heard of anything. The people to ask about that would be the folks at Pathfinder Press though... If anybody in the US would know, they would.

A.) What are the questions surrounding Camilo's death all about?

B.) Who is Huber Matos? Supposedly, one the big leaders of the Cuban Revolution yet hardly anything is written about him?

I know these read like 'gusano' questions, but I would really like to know people's opinions.

As far as I can tell due to the nature of the plane crash, there were allegations that it was intentional (mostly along the lines of removing political competition), though nothing has come out to prove that it was foul play.

He had been a part of the July 26 movement, opposed to Batista's dictatorship. Following the revolution though he made it clear he wouldn't be part of any Marxist state, as he seemingly did not approve of Marxism (His common ground with the other revolutionaries was only over Batista it seems). Consequently he attempted to resign from his post twice, and Cienfuegos was sent to apprehend him (after doing so Cienfuegos disappeared on his plane). Matos was brought to sentencing and popular opinion apparently wanted him executed, but Castro didn't want to run a chance of martyring him and instead sent him to prison. It seems the communists later claimed that Matos had been working with other Cubans in what would culminate into the Bay of Pigs invasion.

20 years later he was released, went to Puerto Rico and then Florida where he continues to talk trash about the Cuban regime.
