View Full Version : High School Sucks

I'm sure many people here will understand the following rant.
Ok, so I basically hate high school even though I'm not really done with it (sophomore year). Let me be honest with you guys: I am a member of the petty bourgeoisie, which is probably the worst class in capitalism, simply because they aspire to be rich but have no solidarity with the working class. However, I go to a school full of condescending rich assholes whose main preoccupations are having sex and circle jerking each other on how awesome they are. The strict conformism of the school is basically exhausting. Girls are expected to be nothing more than sex objects and guys are supposed to be these sweat-pant wearing, loud, obnoxious, and heterosexist tools whose only destiny is sex, cheap beer, and bragging about themselves as they try out for the lacrosse team. Kids like me -- the few leftists, or even those that think differently of themselves or the world, or those that listen to different music, are not straight, or that ascribe to different lifestyles are thrown in the "weird" bin. It's horrible, and it's all a product of this dreaded system -- capitalism, which has warped the individual, with all his/her desires and aspirations into a mere tool for profit. Authenticity has become a lie in this place. So what do I do? I find the few good people out here and just smoke weed with them.

I dislike the classroom structure at high school but I like the social aspect. I've found a good niche with my friends. Also, my school is less cliquey than a lot of schools.

you'll be out in a few years (which really isn't that long) and then you'll struggle to remember why you even gave a shit. ride it out, high school doesn't really matter. at all.

This. High school sucks, but ignore the shit as much as possible. Just focus on doing as well as possible to secure something for yourself, college is 100x better than high school.

I hated high school. I was the easy victim of derision (communist, pale as milk, lanky, gay, shy) and I hated how the school blatantly courted well to do white kids like myself for educational opportunity while ignoring black students (almost 45% of the school's population). I know this because I spent most of my time in high school hanging out on the "black side" of the cafeteria, and most of the black kids who applied for AP courses were told there wasn't "any more room" and a litany of other excuses. I maintained a C average through much of high school, I was no star student but I had much more opportunity than my black friends. Basically, high school actively sought to court the well off white students that made your and my life living hells.
I have been out of high school for about 2 years now and I have had much greater experiences than those 4 years combined.

Don't be a dick. High school matters because people are in it, and it's shit, and it shouldn't be. I could go into all kinds of theory about how it's a major state apparatus for indoctrination etc., and that's not just content, that's everything from the administrative structure to a lot of the social and cultural structure of it.
But I think what's more important is the way in which we're trained to tell people younger than us (or if we're men, women) that their problems aren't really important. Bullshit.
It's true that you do get of high school generally a lot sooner than you expect, and a lot of the bullshit goes away. Doesn't make it okay.

High school sucks. But this is just a fact we gotta accept with the school systems being the way they are. I know what you mean about being stuck as part of the bourgeoisie, I go to a rich Christian private school in the south in a major city. Just ignore the shit that others do, have fun fucking with them, mess with the teachers that deserve it (i.e. the ones that don't teach and somehow stay hired), find a couple good, possibly commie or anarcho, books to whip out when you want to ignore the people there.
Also for those who think private schools are better, they really aren't. The people are the exact same, it's just who you give the money to. In fact, my school won't let us do the classes we ask them to, even though they try and make a point of saying they do.
Now for me to rant, I hate my school too. Mostly because of the bourgeoisie connection type system of dealing with trouble-makers. From k4 to 8th grade there was this same group of people, with new ones every year or so added to them, who decided to make it their goal in life to make my life a living hell. Constant verbal assaults, sometimes physical shit. Heck I got pretty decent at defending and winning some of those fights, something you wouldn't expect from a semi-tall, scrawny 80 lb boy. That was mostly from the fact that I was clinically depressed from having to deal with that day after day and didn't eat much for all that time. I also got stress headaches every-freaking-day after school, I had a pillow in my mom's car and a window rolled down for when my stomach would purge itself. Guess what happened to the people who were involved? That's right, NOTHING! Because their parents are big-shots or something (They also have a reputation for being some of the worst doctors in the area though. Setting bones and having to break and reset them because they did it wrong the first time. To multiple people...). And this wasn't because the teachers weren't there when this happened. But you wanna guess what happened to me for defending myself? I got sent to a 2 psychologists and a psychiatrist and several testing facilities over 4 years to see if I was "mentally fit" to stay at the school, because I had "anger issues". The funny bit though, is that the meds they put me on made me less impulsive and more focused, which made me actually stop and think what was going on and made me even more pissed than I already was, so I started winning more of these fights, a lot quicker too  Plus I got proof that I was smarter than the average bear from the tests they made me do. Too bad I never got any of the good meds... just anti-depressants that doubled as ADD stuff. Anyways, I'm still at that school, thanks mom and dad, because apparently they didn't think I'd be able to get in a college otherwise.
Phew... Thanks for reading if you made it this far. PM me and I'll send you a digital cookie or something. :p What are ya'll's stories?
By the way, why do they call it high school? It's not like there's much else to do than get stoned. ;)

Man I was so naive in high school. I remember writing a paper and saying something to the effect of, "Whoever invented war is a bad person." And yet, I got straight A's cuz teachers don't teach critical thinking skills, all they do is baby sit the bad kids, which usually is tinged with some racial, classist, or some sort of "look" that indicates to them you're a troublemaker.
Around my sophomore year I "tuned in and turned on" so to speak. I decided I needed to get the fuck out of there, so I took summer school and graduated after my Junior year.
Good times, good times...
Now, who's going to start the college thread:)

i wasn't. i was offering some perspective. i went through high school as well and all my problems then seemed like a big deal. i'd be hard pressed to remember most of them today. i'm not saying that they don't matter, but that once you're out of high school life those problems will quickly fade, so don't stress about them too much.

I will tend to agree with this. High school problems really will only piss you off while your still there. The memories do fade. They become a huge a blur and are unworthy of any attention.
Though, to be honest, I'd take my lame job and lack of cash over high school...

That's the way to go. I took band in highschool and middleschool. I can't say it wasn't helpful, since I love playing music. It was also an easy A.
Also by learning to play the piano you'll find that learning other instruments will be easier as a result.

It's been over half a decade now, but I had to switch high-schools because it became dangerous for me after I refused to stand and pledge my allegiance to a flag on the wall. Some guy called me out, asked me if I thought I was cool, I told him he was a flaggot and the pledge was penned by a socialist, and then called him a commie piece of shit. Some people lol'ed, but apparantly other people couldn't handle it, and about a week later I was called to the principle and told they couldn't guarantee my safety anymore.
Naturally, I was the one that got fucked over, when other people were the one's being the douches and threatening me. Funny how that worked.
Anyway, to this day I still find it sublimely ridiculous that people ought to stand up, put a hand over there heart, and pledge allegiance to a flag. I don't even know what that could possibly mean.
Here's a tip: If you think these capitalist kids are pathetic, then why would anything they say or do bother you. Ofcourse they're going to fuck with someone that is actually worth a damn, they're pathetic after all. Your values are different than theirs, better than theirs, anything they do in relation to you is an expression of this. They act pathetic because they are pathetic, and this is the toll they pay for being douches. They can never change the fact that they were or are pathetic people. You on the other hand, you get to develop character in the face of adversity, create your own meaning in a bourgeousie wasteland. This is a rare and noble opportunity, make us proud.
Good luck.

Just dont take high school seriously and dont let it get to you. High School kids are really just a bunch of self-conscious douche bags and believe me, they will do or say anything to "fit in" and be considered cool to have some sense of self-worth. What I would do is take care of your remaining credits in community college, that way you wont have to deal with the immature folks at high school and youll be done with high school very early.
Anyone here drinks 211 beer? I think i might be the only one who actually likes the taste ;D Tecate is just soo damn disgusting!

Im acknowledging what the OP said about many of the students in his school, because my school was very much the same. In my experiences of high school and what my friends went through, these kids are mean as all hell to each other, which stems from their extreme insecurity, of course. Yeah nothings wrong with being self conscious, but high school is brutal and many take out their insecurities on everyone else. There are lots of real chill folks too and ive had good times, but still, why not go to community college and graduate real early?

Sounds like a large segment of my university...
In fact, I'm not sure which, the girls in my high school or the women in my university, as a group had a higher measure of self-respect.
Than again I don't focus on "large segments" because I already know that a large segment of my university is full of losers. I tend to focus on my individual relationships and for a while I had quite a few close friends and we had our own little somewhat hipster and/or indie social scene in a sense while we somewhat criticized everyone else and that's somewhat all we needed. Although that was sometime ago and now most of these close friends have left or are going to leave...now I'm a sad panda.
Same thing that is wrong with cheap cigarettes.

Although in PR the national beer is cheap and it ain't pretty bad. It ain't some shit keystone or natty ice which some people seem to "like" here in America. But I tend to go for stuff that usually is somewhat "pricey." (relative, because 2 of them like Peroni and Presidente are cheap in their nation of origin.)

If you hate it so much, why the hell are you still going through the motions? I have a meeting tomorrow with those bourgeoisie fuckers and I'm going to tell them exactly what I want-homeschool, a lot of them get into college fairly easily, and I'm not going to "stick it out" any more. I'm fed up with sticking it out, all it does is make me miserable. I'm not popular and I'm damn proud of it, the popular ones are the ones who are conforming the best. My school is full of right-wing preppy douchecocks who wouldn't know socialism if it hit them with a sledge hammer. I don't have many friends because most of the students are right wing or sports nuts. You can make the decision to be homeschooled, though some states and countries may have different rules and laws for this. Look them up on the internet. I'm leaving traditional so I can teach myself something while I still can, I don't learn as much as I could, and I can do with out the conformity and social pressure. Be a true revolutionist, show them you can change your life fundamentally and be a success and then shove it in their faces. Good luck on whatever you decide to do, I know in my heart and my mind that I am making the correct choice.
